Did anyone else on this forum apply to WMU's MOT program for Fall 2014? The applications were due February 1st and ALREADY I am paranoid and panicky waiting for their decisions! I also applied to GVSU and Wayne State. I figured if you applied to these schools we could chat on any updates we find out about and/or stats, etc. 🙂

I hear that WMU is extremely picky on GPA which scares me a bit.
Overall GPA- 3.3
Pre-req GPA- 3.85
Last 60 GPA- 3.8

Shadowing hours- 100 in neuro recovery, 40 in hand therapy, 40 in vision rehabilitation, 30 in inpatient rehab and 30 in acute care.
Volunteer and work experiences- Leader at a camp for kids with disabilities, note-taker for disabled students, leader at a camp through Interfaith Center for Racial Justice, worked as a home health aide for 2 years, a patient care tech in pediatrics for a year and a lead activity assistant in a nursing home setting for a year.

I applied to WMU and Wayne this year as well. I am anxiously awaiting a response too! I'll keep you updated if I hear back.

I am going to go ahead and agree with you, I am pretty "spazzy" when it comes to this whole process. This is my 3rd time applying to WMU. The first 2 times I applied to the undergrad 4+1 program and now after finishing my BS I'm applying to the MOT program. I am hoping that because the graduate program only looks at the last 60 credits, I'll get accepted this time around. Like the many other applicants, waiting on these letters is very nerve-racking for everyone. Good luck to the both of you, I wish you guys the best of luck getting into the program!

Woah... My intentions were not to go on about my anxiety over getting into a program that I've dedicated 3 years of my life to trying to get into. My intentions were to talk to others who are also applying to wmu in hopes that we could help eachother out, give eachother support and hopefully chat afterwards if we all happen to get in and become classmates 🙂. Every single thread on here includes people mentioning what their stats are. I didn't know that doing so would cause a controversy. Everybody applying to programs is nervous during the process... Everybody. They essentially hold our future in their hands. It's nerve-racking for anyone. I however have a 4 year old son that I am raising alone while also dedicating time to perfecting my app and finishing school while also working. It's been a tough road for all of us so naturally I'm excited, nervous, etc., to find out if the hard work paid off! These threads are for posting concerns and questions so I thought it would be appropriate to get it all out there on here. Like I said, I have a son so during every day life I don't have time to be nervous... I focus on him! It's nice to come on here with people going through the same things and talk about the process together! Sorry if I came off "spazzy and whiny". 🙂 like I said, goodluck to you and your future. Sorry for all the grammar errors, I'm writing on my iPhone lol!

I agree bcw. Everyone is on here because they truly care about their future in OT and are nervous waiting on the letters from schools. I go to WMU and have several friends applying to the OT program and we all find ourselves checking our emails everyday since the day we turned in our apps, haha! We know we won't know an answer for a while but it's hard not knowing. I think it shows that you are pretty dedicated if this is your third time applying. Hopefully WMU will notice that. We'll chat if we both get in! Goodluck to us 😀

Does anyone know when western sends out any kind of communication regarding admissions decisions? I know they didn't start reviewing until Feb 1st but I'm still antsy. I have been accepted elsewhere and although I've paid the deposit there I'm hesitant to fully commit to the school because it is out of state and so much more expensive.

Ugh. I've been checking my application status daily. That in-state tuition would have been nice. Have you heard from anyone who has been accepted/rejected? Maybe waitlist decisions will come later

Edit: I read on a different site's forum that letters were sent out today. If this is true, best of luck!

I was informed on the phone yesterday that letters will most likely be going out Friday! She also told me that over 200 people applied this year and that they will be accepting 48 students total (16 to Kalamazoo, 32 to Grand Rapids). Goodluck!

From what I took from the conversation with admissions is that they are sending all the decisions out at once. They aren't sending them out in chunks like they do for their undergrad OT program. I have been checking the application status site daily too and have been worrying myself over it. It's good to know that they haven't sent out a single letter yet. Again, best of luck!

If you don't mind me asking, did you apply to both the Grand Rapids and Kalamazoo campus? I was pretty shocked to find out that they only accepted 16 students to the Kalamazoo campus this year. From what I have heard that is especially low compared to other years.

I applied to both campuses with Kalamazoo as first choice. I'm surprised that the Grand Rapids campus accepts so many more students.

@osu789 I won't be applying again if rejected because I'm already in somewhere else, but I appreciate the advice and encouragement. I would love to go to WSU, but I just can't wait another year to start school.

I thought for sure I'd get something in the mail today since I live so close to Kalamazoo, bummer. Well, just a few days more of waiting I guess... I am so antsy over here, the anticipation is killing me! :nailbiting:

Has anyone tried to register for First semester classes? I read form forums previous year someone thought it is a good indicator of admission.

Did someone say that about WMU or was that for another school? I heard of people doing that too so I tried registering and it wouldn't let me 🙁...

Did you try to register for all the first semester class? Try to register for all of the following classes together OT 3700, 3740, 3750 and 3760.

I just graduated from the school in December and when I go to register for ANY classes, even undergrad classes it says "SR" (student restricted to register) next to them. It won't let me sign up for anything. I'm assuming that probably means I didn't get accepted. Were you able to register?

I am currently taking online Intro to OT class, and I tried to register for the classes and I was able to register for them. I am not sure what that really means, or how the system works.

That's a pretty good indicator that you got accepted then! I know that I wasn't able to sign up for those classes during my last semester of undergrad. You can only sign up for them if you're in the program. I'm just confused as to why I can't sign up for any classes at the school at this point. I didn't know after you graduate you weren't able to sign up for any other classes there.

I have my undergrad from India and I am not sure what they evaluated my undergrad GPA as but for my prerequisite i have a 4.0

I don't think the fact that I am able to register means I got accepted. Just wait till next week to get the results. I feel that you might not be able to register as you are not a current student and I am a current guest student.

I am taking the intro class online right now too and I am able to register for the grad classes without restriction. I think it's just because I'm a current student and technically a graduate guest student. I agree that we'll unfortunately just have to wait a little longer.

Thanks for the input, that makes me feel a bit better! Tomorrow can't come fast enough 🙂

Did you guys get your letters yet? I just got mine and I GOT IN! :soexcited:
Goodluck everyone!

CONGRATS! I'm still waiting for the mail to come...

Update: "Unfortunately, your total application score fell below other applicants and we are not able to offer you a position in the program for Fall 2014." I'm a little sad, but I am in somewhere else so I should be fine. Good luck to everybody else!!

I'm sorry to hear that OTK80 but congrats on getting into another program that is so exciting! What school were you accepted to?

I'm going to Temple in Philadelphia! I'm really excited about it, but it's going to be mega expensive with out of state tuition. Here's to adventure (and lots of ramen noodles)!

Hi OTK80, I don't know if you're aware but there was a student last year by the handle of OTK and I think she went to Temple? Maybe you can email her about the school to get a head start. I mean it's quite a coincidence; I know I would be thrilled to be hailed upon. 🙂

Congrats to everyone that got in. I was waitlisted.

OTK80 I really wanted to move out of state! Congrats again, Temple is a great school. 😀

Linux7- I got in at the Kalamazoo campus, congrats on getting in!

Goodluck osu789, hoping you hear good news.

Does anybody know when the 2015 decisions will sent out?

I got an email today that they should be sent out beginning of april at the latest!

I know this is a long shot, but would anyone have any type idea of what the average pre-req gpa and Last 60 credit hour gpa was for this applicant pool?

I would assume at least 3.5 or better. I got a rejection letter from them, yesterday. They stated that although they were impressed by my 3.6 graduate (currently attending WMU for Health Care Admin. Master's program) and 3.3 pre-req GPA- they said my undergraduate GPA was .5 pts lower than what they would've liked it to be. It sucks, but I know I will get into a program somewhere. Good luck!

MandyK15 Why did they not consider the credits you most recently took from grad program?

No but i'm dyingggg...I keep reading these forums and seeing rejections from people with really great credentials is making me super nervous....

Can you post a link to those other forums?

Anyone apply to WMU for their 4+1 Fall 16?

I just applied.
GPA: 3.94
Pre-req GPA: 4.0
Work/Volunteer: 70 hours at school for disabled, 100 hours from volunteering in a hospital setting
Leadership/Teamwork: 9,000 + hours from my time in the military, 250 hours from squadron booster clubs
Culture courses: 0
Languages: American Sign Language I
Shadow Experience: 20 hours through Bronson (multiple populations)

Good-luck everyone!!

Not sure if you still are on here but do you mean your undergrad last 60 or cumulative?

I got my letter today. I'm in! Kalamazoo campus.

Congrats! What are your stats if you don't mind me asking?
3.86 gpa general, 4.0 last 60 credits and my required classes were a bit low as far as gpa I had some Bs in those classes. 40 hours OT at one place, experience working with TBI clients and a few different volunteering experiences.

Congrats! what campus did you get accepted into? I got in at Grand Rapids.
Hi linux7! I just got accepted to the Grand Rapids campus and am so excited to start in the fall! I'm hoping you could possibly share some insight into the program, the downtown campus and how you are liking it so far?!
