hello everyone. i received my first acceptance recently, though not from my top choice. after receiving the acceptance letter in the mail i responded with a letter "holding my place in the class" within the deadline as requested. i just got the mail confirmation response, and the wording goes something like "congratulations on accepting a position in the class...see you in the fall". this school is not necessarily my top choice. is there a difference between the letter i got and one for someone (like me) who wishes to wait until the May 15th to decide between schools?

You need to call the school, they are the only ones who really know their policies. But my gut feeling is that you're OK.

All acceptance letters are going to say "see you in the fall". But don't worry. You're allowed to hold onto mutiple acceptances until May 15. You're also allowed to change your mind about attending a school after you've mailed in your deposit. But pay attention to each school's policy... some schools may not give you your deposit back.

I agree, I'm pretty sure you can hold as many acceptances as you want until the 15th of May. but, please call the school. you don't wanna take any chances at this stage in the process.

hmmm, calling the school and asking them if you are still able to withdraw your acceptance might not fly too well with them. if the first letter said that you had to respond in order to "hold" your place in the class, then it should not be binding. i have never heard of any school that sent out binding acceptances. it's just a general rule that you should have until may 15 to make a final decision.

Ok, so applicants can hold multiple acceptances at any school unil May 15? That is great news if it's true. Is this rule set by the AAMC? I thought the deadlines could be 2-3 weeks from acceptance, which could put the applicant in a tough situation depending on when the acceptance is. I'm still a little confused, though. If you look at US News admissions stats, some schools have a holding fee, and some don't. Some schools have a "maximum response time" of 2-3 weeks. I don't like that! Am I mssing something?

thank you all for clearing this up for me. I think I will just call the school on monday to clarify, without identifying myself so as not to come off badly. from what you guys all wrote and the AAMC website, it seems like i should be OK. this is all assuming i actually get more acceptances of course 😎

Its all refundable until May 15.

Sort of. Yes, you can hold multiple acceptances until May 15th. However, not all schools will refund your deposit (Wayne State is the only one I know of for sure, but they take that $50 and run).
