so I work on a hospital floor as a tech and a patient gave a nurse a note( her number on it with my name on it) and asked her to hand it to me.

I texted her and she asked me out.

Did I make a mistake?

It might be considered unprofessional by some, but I don't think it's unethical once she is out the door. I don't think you have too much to worry about. Can anyone else chime in?

It's not like you walked into a patients room and propositioned them. She initiated and then you responded later, you're good. Although this does remind me of a time that a 19 year old patient proposed to an 8 month pregnant nurse with the pulse oximeter and then bawled their eyes out when she said no....

yep, i got off work, waited a few hours until they were discharged and texted them...am i in trouble or at risk?

You're not in trouble, but please don't EVER do this again. It's tempting, I know, but don't !@#$ where you work. You got a potential crazy ex-gf that knows where you work now and if anyone finds out (and there will be gossip), you'll have a reputation. I have to remind myself this all the time when patients get too flirty.

If my first knowledge of an individual is "patient at hospital in which I work", that individual will never have a chance at having WheezyBaby's baby. That's the type of thing to be extremely conservative about. That said, if you were never involved in their care, you should be fine
