So, long story short, I took an easy semester because I needed to study for the MCAT, so I only took four classes, 14 credit hours total. I just found out that I got a B in two of the classes bringing my semester GPA to a 3.5

The problem is I've pretty much had a 4.0 until this point (spring of third year), and this'll definitely drop my GPA quite a bit. How will medical schools interpret this? Or am I panicking more than I should? :scared:

You're fine. Two B's are not going to keep you out of med school. Relax.

Thanks for your advice. Also, I'm taking summer courses needed for graduation (May and June) and if I do well on those classes, would they be able to help pull my GPA up or would it be too late by the time I submit the AMCAS?

1. At this point you should know you aren't screwed.
2. with a 3.5 and only 14 hours you better have or get a kick but MCAT score. I'm talking 35+.

Oh wow you took it seriously.

C'mon. You got 2 Bs in college. Big friggin deal. It brought your 4.0 down to a 3.9? Stop stressing out about this.

lol wat

I hope this is supposed to be a joke.

No not a joke at all. The OP says that he had a GPA 4.0 and then in his own words took an 'easy' semester so that he or she could study for the MCAT. For him or her to lighten his or her coursework then have his GPA drop significantly (4.0 to 3.5 is significant) he would have had to put in an ungodly amount of studying for it to retract from his performance standard. What i'm saying for this drop in performance to be excusable and worth while he should have a pretty competitive score which I consider to be 35+

i don't know what's scarier here. The person freaking out about 2 B's in a transcript full of A's or the guy advising him that it'll be okay because he should get a 35 on his MCAT.

Well, 3.5 is the semester GPA, overall is 3.86.

Is 2sk0ol's advice really that out of the ordinary? I feel like I'm pushing close to a 35 on the AAMC tests, and a couple more days of studying and I should be able to break it, hopefully. 😕

And yeah Isoprop I am taking you seriously. Sorry I am bad at sarcasm. 😛

LOL. I guess it's just me here. I'll try to explain myself one more time. I'm just saying it seems like he spent ALOT of time on to study his MCAT. I get the impression he's a hard worker so I think that his this will reflect in his performance on the MCAT.

But I am only human in subject to my own flaws. so this may sound reasonable to me but it might not be. So I'll concede.

OP since you put in a lot of time and effort into studying, at the cost of your gpa, I for one hope that it was worth it and that you will get a 35+.

Yes, it is just you. You're telling somebody who has a 3.9 GPA that he absolutely must get a 35+ on his MCAT, all because he got a B.

The "cost" to his 4.0 GPA was, what, one tenth of one point? Frankly, this shouldn't even be perceived as a mistake by the OP. A 3.5 semester is perfectly reasonable, even by med school standards. Chill out for one second.

No that's not what I'm saying. And I don't believe that his Overall GPA is horrible, in fact I'm sure that it's pretty darn good. But I could try to explain myself all night but I have a feeling that that won't matter. That is simply what I think. That's just my opinion. However sensible it may or may not be I'm entitled to it. aren't I?

But Alas, let us end this.

Good luck to the OP and everyone else for that matter in their pursuits.

Thanks again, and I appreciate all your input.

Ok, seriously...grow up and get your head out of your a **. Do you know how many people on here would kill to have your GPA?? Are you seriously complaining about two B's??? Suck it up and get over it...

I think people are misinterpreting what 2school4cool (yeah, I'm not bothering to spell it "right" 😛 ) is saying. I take it as, "If you gave up a PERFECT GPA to study more for the MCAT, for it to be "worth it" it's reasonable to aim for a 35+. If he sacrificed a bunch of time from his classes and still "only" got an average-ish score like a 30, that would surely be disappointing and not really what he was expecting for a return on his "investment" of time."

At no point did I hear him say that the OP NEEDS a 35+ to get into med school, or that a 3.86 is anything but an excellent GPA.

OP, as others have said, you're stressing out about little things. It's only natural... but stop it 😛
