I'm planning to study for my DAT this semester, and I'm assuming taking cell bio will help me review some of the bio stuff (obviously in more depth than intro bio), since I had intro bio a while ago. Did any of y'all find it helpful to take this class either while or right before studying for the DAT?

Thanks!

It will not help you remember all the facts. The way the higher Bio and Chem classes help is by allowing you to associate concepts learned in lower classes. The more in depth knowledge isn't tested on the DAT but when you go through Cliff's AP Bio to review for the DAT, you won't just memorize the facts. You'll actually understand the concepts and remember the stuff you need to for a longer period of time.

I took 400 level cell bio and none of thematerials that I learned in this class appeared on the dat
i think lower level one would hlep

Yes but you might NOT get any cell bio question

This is extremely difficult to answer in such a broad area (the Internet). Considering each school teaches things a bit differently and each teacher within each school. I think you're asking the wrong set of people. For instance, I took cell bio just before taking the DAT and it was the most worthless class I had taken yet! I learned more about the cell and it's processes/functions in bio 101. That is just an example of the large discrepancies between professors; let alone between different institutions.

That being said, I'd find your school's pre dent club or pre health professional's club and ask those who have both taken the DAT and studied at your school. They should be able to give you a better plan of attack for classes prepping for the DAT. Good luck!

I actually had a question on the DAT that was very specific and I would not have known how to answer it if I had not taken Cell Bio because it never came up in any of the review materials I used. If it fulfills your graduation requirements then I would say take it.

This is what I figured. Knowing the concepts more in-depth will help me understand the intro to bio material more. Thanks so much!

Thanks! Yeah, Cell Bio is a class I will have to take at some point anyway...I figured it might be more helpful to take while studying than something else that definitely won't be covered on the DAT.

Thanks for the response!

This is really good advice. I'll do that! Thanks!

In any case, I'm a couple of years out from having taken intro to bio and my grades in those two classes don't warrant a retake plus I will have to take cell bio anyway, so I'm thinking I'll stick with it, since the class seems to go over basic cell concepts from what I've seen on the syllabus (transcription, translation, basic cell processes).
