Did W's on your transcript hurt any reapplicants?

I was wondering if any of you reapplicants heard from schools that you were rejected from that having too many W's on your transcript may have hurt your chances. I have to be honest, I flat messed up my undergrad the first 2 yrs by withdrawing. Yet, I am still settled on going for it until someone tells me no.

I have 2 W's and didn't get in this cycle, but I was never told that these W's were the reason specifically.

I had a few W's on my undergrad transcript as well and one or two W's on my grad school transcript but my grades showed an upward trend and iun grad school I kept a 3.7. I was accepted this cycle, I think the most important thing when applying is writing a good personal essay and turning your app in as soon as possible!

I had about 6 W's and was accepted. However, this being the key word, all but 2 of them were due to specific circumstances. 3 were because of a change of major, and one was because of an illness.

"Special Circumstances" play a key in all of this you know. Just because you see someone who was accepted with a 3.2 and 21 MCAT does not mean anyone with those numbers can get in.

Good luck to you all. I was a reapplicant and it sucks. However, enjoy your freedom while it lasts.

I had 3 W's and was accepted this cycle but was asked to explain my W's at two interviews. As long as you have good explanations for your W's I'd say they won't hurt you.

sorry to resurrect this, but I was wondering if someone could explain exactly what they mean by W. I am canadian, and am not sure that we have the same system.

for example, I have two 'Dr's on my transcript from dropping a class late in the semester. Is that the same as a W?

Yeah, same thing.

I had a few and it never came up. If your Ws were accompanied by low grades and a low MCAT, however, they might question your ability to deal with the rigors of medical school curriculum.

Some schools pass your app directly into the round file, trash, if you fail to directly address all Ws and other odds situations on your application. Remember the top schools have about 200-500 applicants for each seat, so don't make them search for an answer... offer one.
