1154 positions offered, 24 went unfilled.

WOW. Ob.gyn was A LOT more competitive this year!! in 2003 there were >100 spots that went unfilled.

Now I am seriously nervous about Thurs. Forget about number 4 or 5. I could be going down to number 10!! yikes!

I saw that. Competitive on the same level as gas and EM, just to name a couple(well, I really don't believe that, but if we ONLY consider unfilled percentage...)crazy year! Ob/gyn on the upswing, I like it.

Thank god I have a spot!

Wow are we competative this year, thank got I matched. But, did you see gen surg? Only one spot for the scramble tomorrow, wouldn't want to be shooting for that one.

Best of luck on Thursday.

where did you get this information?
I thought the unfilled programs were not listed until Tues?
just wondering

It is on the NRMP site. It does not list programs, just regional stats by specialty. If you are registered with the NRMP this year, you can log in and check the reports section to see it.

More competitive than ortho (16 unfilled for 615 spots) 😎 . You can find the info on NRMP.org website under my reports -> regional match statistics by specialty.

% filled is not directly related to how competitive the specialties are.... OB/GYN did very well this year filling spots but to say the applicant pool was more competitive than ortho is naive. Unfortunately only the SF match puts out individual candidate credentials to allow comparison of Step 1/2, class rank, AOA status, number of applicants, etc.

To answer your false assumption, No I am not in nor going into Ortho. I was seriously considering OB/GYN and I may do a fellowship there in the future. I did not intend for my statement to diminish your accomplishments in obtaining a position in an obviously very popular field. I do apologize for calling your assumptions "naive" as this was uncalled for. My only point was that to compare numbers of unfilled spots between two different residencies is not an accurate means of determining the level of competition. Both fields will get highly qualified applicants with outstanding board scores and transcripts, however a comparison of the average applicant pool from any two arbitrary residencies will show a definite disparity. Or you can define competition by the number of applicants vs the number of postions available, but this excludes the credential criteria as mentioned above. Either way, neither here nor there because I respect all of my colleagues. I just felt a statement aimed at Ortho as in the above post is an example of diminishing someone else's achievements.

Not ortho or OBGYN but have to second Brisk's opinion.

only tooling around here because I can't sleep.

g/l to all tomorrow. :luck:
