Have a question for you guys who submitted... What schools that you guys applied to have supplemental apps? Like actual questions where you have to write an essay or two, as opposed to the ones who just have a fee? Unless there's some way to know this before applying to the schools...

Go to the schools individual websites to determine if they have a supplemental app or just a secondary fee. Most schools dont have a supp. app, I think I filled out about 5 out of 19 schools that I applied to.

@Space Cake: You just applied this cycle and already finished everything? Which schools are they that have the application that you applied to? Thanks for the heads up though, but some websites just say "when an admissions officer contacts you". Are those the 5 that sent it to you? Thanks again

No I am a current dental school. I applied 2 cycles ago. I know BU, Midwestern AZ, Minnesota have one. I'm not sure of the rest. It's really not something you should be worrying about until the schools contact you.

Did you take the DAT yet?

I'm taking it Tuesday... And I was just trying to get an idea so I don't apply to 20 schools that each have a few essays to do. That would be a waste of money for some of those schools that I won't get to.

I put up similar advice on another thread, but Ill restate it for you: After you submit your app you can add as many additional schools as you like. So you should submit your app to 1 school to make sure the GPA and LORs are processed and then after you get your DAT scores you'll have a better idea of where to apply and what other schools to add. That's what I did and it worked out for me. I saved money and time and only applied to schools where I had a good shot out of getting into. It's not advisable to apply to schools w/o knowing your DAT scores.

I actually already did that haha We think alike. I only picked one school a few weeks back and my application is all complete and verified and letters are in. And since the mailing got changed to next week and not this week, it works out perfect because after my DAT on Tuesday, I'll add the additional schools realistically based on my score/calling them and it'll all be sent out together in the next batch.

Also be mindful that it takes 2 weeks for the DAT score to be uploaded to your profile. So your application will be truly complete 2 weeks after the DAT.

Do you recommend I just send my unofficial score report to the schools, after contacting them and they receive my application? Thank you.

Most schools dont accept unofficial reports, some say they do and you can fax it over. But I did that and they still didn't get back to me faster than the other schools that waited the 2 weeks for the official score. So you might as well wait those 2 weeks. I would just add or remove schools from your list after your exam and work on the secondary applications and fees during the 2 weeks while you wait. That's all you can really do.

@Space Cake: I really appreciate all of your help by the way. Thank you so much. What I plan to do after my exam is go right home and call the schools that I plan to apply to and tell them my scores, just in case I'm on a border line cutoff or something (especially for PAT, that's my weakest section). And then I have a question in regards to pre-req's for each school and their supplemental... And then I'll just ask whether or not they'll take an unofficial score report after my application is mailed to them. So a quick 5 minute phone conversation with each school after my exam.. What do you think?

Go for it! Just follow up after you fax the score to see that they actually started to review your file. I just feel that they took my score but didn't do much for it. But hey you should def try good luck man! and no problem, its my pleasure.
