This my first time using student doc... I just got my COMLEX level 1 score back, I didn't do too well... 445...I am interested in FP, IM,EM, PM&R....I was just wondering if there is anyway for me to bounce back? With the score I have now , what is the likely hood I could possibly land a position in those fields. I'd really appreciate some insight! Thanks a bunch.

I think it really depends what program you apply to....if you apply to harvard, hopkins, mayo clinic well that might be hard... step 2 also matters, as well as your shelf scores, letters of rec, etc....

Especially in FP/IM I really don't think you're out of contention for anything

sorry if this is a dumb question, but aren't harvard, hopkins, mayo clinic etc allopathic residencies? i thought they didn't look at comlex scores

You should have no problem with FP or IM. You may have a problem with EM. The best thing to do is kill rotations, get solid letters, and rotate where you want to go to impress the residents/attendings.

A lot of programs will average your 2 digit score from step 1 and 2. Most cutoff's I've seen are around 80. I'm in the same boat with my score and really want to get into an AOA ObGyn residency. But remember, it's just like applying to med school all over again . . . you are more than your step 1 score!

I have a friend who didn't break 450 on their step 1 and they are now getting interviews for general surgery at places they have rotated. 👍

Good Luck!!! :luck:

So with what 3 digit score and 2 digit COMLEX Step 1 score are you a pretty decent applicant for AOA Emergency Medicine residencies?

As long as you pass the comlex, you will be able to land a spot in an AOA ER residency. Obviously the better you do, the more options you will have to pick from...

To the OP just try to do better on Step 2 and outshine during audition rotations and you will have no problem landing a residency of your choice.

Really? I've been worried about getting an ER residency with my 218 USMLE and 515 COMLEX. I'm not calling you out or anything, I'm honestly curious how you know this to be true because, if true, that would be a huge relief for me.

ER is more than just board scores, I hear audition rotations go a long way with getting in to your desired residency choice. I have also been told Step II scores are also carrying as much weight as step 1 scores nowadays. But the best advice I was given was to talk to residents who are accepted in the location of your choice and see what they did to succeed in matching there.

IMO your board scores are decent, your comlex is above average so you should have no problem with osteopathic ER programs.

well, first off, it means you passed, and aren't taking time out of rotations to restudy, so, congrats! i 2nd prions, you are more than just one score, and still have plenty of time to keep on making yourself a stronger candidate come application time. i think you are being realistic with your options, good luck!
