So I did not match the program I had my heart set on. The only other program I am interested in is at a community health clinic-which is probably similar to my externship experience.

Is a residency a must these days in finding a new job if you don't have dental connections? Logically work makes sense for me, I am just not sure if I will find a job.

Dentistry is not at a point yet where residency is a must to get a job without connections... I'm assuming you're talking about a GPR/AEGD which you did not match into. I say look around and apply for jobs, and if all else fails get a job for a corporate chain.
