difference between 3.79 and 3.8 GPA

but seriously OP, im sure you'll be fine...things like this have kept me up at night before, too...but in the end like other people have said, it just seems like a big difference.

OP i completely understand where you're coming from. Yes it's only .01 to a machine, but humans interpret data much differently. A 3.80 looks much more powerful than a 3.79 (it's why everything is $5.99 instead of $6.00 as someone mentioned). Will it play a big difference? Probably not, but if you can make your application look better by talking to someone, try it. You don't have much to lose - it's not like she's going to write an LOR for you or ever see you again.

I had a similar experience myself and it worked out well. I almost lost my 4.0 due to a French history class, but I went to see the professor after the grades came out and calmly explained my situation. I asked him about the grading system (it was a subjective course) and asked if there was any extra work I could do. Eventually, I could tell that he realized I wouldn't go away, so he pretty much gave in and changed the B to an A. Yeah, it was just ~.02 on my GPA, but it's really so much more in the human perspective.

So OP, ignore these guys - go get it changed. Worst that happens is she says no. If it means something to you, then it is worth it.

Except you forgot the fact where the OP is about to pay 375 dollars to reschedule his flight, just to talk to the professor about a .01 change. And I highly doubt if OP gets rejected from a med school it wont be because he had 3.79 compared to a 3.8. You forgot to mention that GPA is just a part of your entire application. so....
 
I talked to her today, and she said she will change my grade to A !!!!

Now my gpa went up to 3.81 again, and no need to cancel my flight !!

She said she's discovered an error in her final grade calculations.
But she would never have cared about my grade, if I hadn't visited her. I'm relieved now.

That's really good. Now you know that you really deserved that A. Students should know why they get the grades that they receive. I'm glad that you spoke up for yourself. Not everyone has that much courage.

I think you may have just blown your chances at med school, at this point I do not even see DO or Caribbean as a viable option. My only recommendation for you is to become an EMT, and you better pray to get into that class. May God have mercy on your soul.

Dude. Even a 3.81 might not cut it. I'd start looking into other options such as bus boy at a restaurant or something.
 
I am currently enrolled in a fun class, which I want to take, and it will probably be pretty basic, but it may or may not be adding too much to my load this semester. If I get an A, my cumGPA will go from 3.43 to 3.44. Is that worth it at all in the name of perception?? And yes, I have looked into being a janitor in the caribbean medical schools.

Bumping your GPA to a 3.44 just isn't a good overall number. You're going to want to bump it to a 3.45, so you should take an additional class as well. If you're not willing to do this, then I would take a second look at going the Janitorial route. Best of luck!! 🙂
 
Don't worry about it.

I was talking to my advisor about having a 3.59 GPA being the highest I can get in 1.5 years, he said getting a 3.6 won't make a difference. It is just .01 afterall. 🙂

As much as it annoys you I believe that having a 3.79, and missing the 3.80 by one class isnt horrible. I think its almost the same thing, if all your other courses check out (good grades) your going to be fine. Its ok to take your grades seriously, you should, you put in all that effort. Try fighting the grade, and see what happens, but don't let it get your down or annoy you that you got a 3.79 and not a 3.80, 3.79 is still a great way to end and competitive gpa.

Now see, here is where you are wrong. Your very reasonable advice will not be able to be processed by the OP. He is living in an alternative universe which we cannot hope to understand.

To the OP: Just say "Serenity Now" about 100 times. Stay away from sharp things and hot things. Don't eat anything spicy. Wear loose clothes with elastic everything. No caffeine or alcohol. Sleep between 15 and 20 hours a day.

Adcom please... are apps considered in gpa patches such that a 379 might be batched with a lower group than 3.80 or auto denied ina top 5 school without consideration. Thanks....
