Hey guys I was wondering if I should retake the first semester of Biology. My current sGPA is 3.85 and my cGPA is 3.15. These are my science grades so far:

G-Chem 1: A
G-Chem 2: A
O-Chem 1: A
O-Chem 2: A
Physics 1: A
Physics 2: A
Biology 1: B
Biology 2: not taken yet

So my question is,

Is it worth it to retake Biology 1 over again? (Also taking into consideration my low cGPA). Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Don't worry too much about it. Do well in Bio 102 and the MCAT if you haven't already taken it. I'm curious why your cGPA is so much lower, are you working on a post-bacc?

Yeah, I'm guessing if you want to do a retake you probably have at very least a couple underlying "Cs" or lower with your 3.15 that would do your cGPA some good.

The general rule of thumb, which is a good one, is to never retake a B. Depending on how many credits you have it probably won't help you much at all - if any. For example, if I went back and retook a B- even, it would only raise my gpa by about 0.05. Certainly not worth it.

If you're trying to raise your cGPA focus more on taking upper-level classes to show that you can perform at a rigorous level. With good extra-curriculars and top notch grades in a heavy course load a lot of statistical figures can be overlooked.

I've already completed a Bachelors degree in Sociology and didn't get very good grades. In fact, that 3.15 cGPA is after repeating a few classes. I'm doing an informal post-bac and have done really well in all my science courses except Biology 1 which I completed during my Bachelors degree, thats why I got a B in it. I didn't take school too seriously back then and feel like I could get an A if I took it now.

Yeah, I retook a bunch of 100 level classes I got C's in, like English and college algebra. I felt so old with all the freshmans in the class haha.

No you definitely do not need to retake it. I would take additional bio classes though. Biochem, microbio, genetic, anatomy in that order.

Cool thanks for the advice. I was definitely thinking about this.

Yeah, it would feel kinda funny retaking a class I got a B in, but as far as my sGPA goes it would get bumped up to 4.00 because of the AACOMAS repeat policy. But you're right, probably won't end up repeating it.

Thanks for the advice everyone!
