Anybody, please help with what these things mean? I always get tripped up...is there an easy way to remember these? 😱

dont really know an easy way to remember it, i kinda just see the molecule in my head. This is how i remember them:
Amide:carbonyl + N
Amine: RNH2
Imine: N double bonded to C
Imide: sounds like anhydride (to me anyways) and looks like one with a N in between the carbonyls instead of a C
Enamine: C double bonded to C with single bond to N
What may help u is organic chem legos. U can build 3d models with them and see how they look. might help u visualize them.

If you're getting confused between amine and amide, amine sounds and looks like AMmoNia (with substituents).
Then an enamine is an alkENe (C=C) attached to an amine.
Dunno if that makes any sense but that's how I remember those 2.

yes that works well! thank you

thanks for clarifying those 🙂

I just took the 5/31 test, and I didn't have any idea what an imide was until I read this thread. But, anyway, I agree that the amine/ammonia thing is a helpful way to remember that one. Enamine is also pretty straightforward (alkene/amine). I remember amide because a peptide bond is an amide bond (helpful for me b/c I've looked at alot of peptide sequences in biochem, but I'm not sure if this will help you). Imines I just kinda memorized.

did imide or any of the others show up on the 5/31 test?
