Can anyone tell me the degree difference between DDS and DMD?
Which schools have DDS and which ones have DMD?
Is one better than the other?

Also, Can you do Maxillo facial surgery with both degrees?

Thanks :D

Here is an excerpt from the ADEA's Guide for Dental Students:
Page 71

"A D.D.S. and a D.M.D. are the same degree. The difference between the two degrees is the philosophy behind each one.

"Baltimore College of Dental Surgery was the first to award the DDS degree based on the philosophy that the skills of a surgeon are required to properly alter the physical charcteristics of the dentition in such a way that the outcome would promote health.

Harvard University awarded the frist DMD degree. Their reasoning was that graduates would be involved in practicing the prevention, diagnosis and treametn of diseases of the oral cavity."

the degree you have will not alter your standing to go into OMS.

Some schools that offer the DMD degree are:

NOVA, UPENN, Temple, Harvard

Most other schools will give the DDS degree.

DMD: Doctor of Dental Medicine
DDS: Doctor of Dental Surgery

Hope this helps,
