I have gone through a bunch of threads looking for ways to find shadowing opportunities, gone through "find a DO" and I have even made cold calls. So far everyone has said no to having a shadowing student, the most common reason being that it invades the privacy of patients (even though I tell them that I am HIPAA trained for my job). Since it is required for DO students to shadow a DO and potentially have an LOR from one, has anyone had any success in the Twin Cities area in finding someone that takes on shadowing students? I am becoming very discouraged and I don't know how else to go about this. Any and all advice is so appreciated!

Have you tried the iLearn mentor exchange program? This is supposed to be a resource for pre-meds to find DOs that actually want to be contacted and shadowed. I live in a state that doesn't have very many DOs at all and I finally found one that is about 2 hours away to shadow (most of the DOs I contacted through iLearn never responded to me). Expand to a few hours away if possible, it finally paid off for me. Link:http://cf.osteopathic.org/iLearn/home.cfm
