So I studied for the DAT and was completely disappointed with my results. Despite the fact I studied for a month (focused too) it was a huge shock for me to see my scores so low (ESPECIALLY my GC score). Right now I know that I need to retake in order to stay competitive... but the problem is, the next time I can retake the test is on October 1st (earliest). This is a problem for me because I know that at this point it's really late in the cycle...

I've had my application sent out since July 4th but I know my app isn't complete until my DAT scores finally reach the schools (probably a week from now) and I'm still waiting on my LORs (from my predental committee).

So my question: will my app be sitting at the end of the pile indefinitely until it's complete? Or will it be brought out for review as soon as it's complete? If it's the former, then I might as well tell the schools that i'm planning on a retake. However, if its still sitting ahead of everyone else sending in their apps now, then I figure that I might as well take the chance and wait it out and hope for the best. I have a very strong application (aside from my subpar gpa and DAT) and I know i'll do well during my interview(s) (if I get any) but I'm really worried that it won't make it through the first round screening process.

hello, ur bio and rc is pretty good..but the rest? ur sciences need to be very good (all in the 20's) and honestly, u should definitely retake. October is late but not that late..especially if u do stellar! (like go up 4-5 points in each section). so make sure u dedicate 2-3 months studying up until ur exam and u will definitely go up! u've alfready paid so much so either u back out now so u don't pay doing secondary applications..or retake and make ur money worth it! good luck

Tell the schools you are interested in that you are retaking

I hope you have some outstanding extracurriculars because while your DAT isn't terrible its around average. However your GPA is low so you need something to stand out to the adcoms. If you do get interviews they will most likely tell you to retake the DAT to be competitive when you are weighed against the others they interview.

Keep studying hard and you will do much better next time. I suggest destroyer and Kaplan practice tests.

Ah, so I realized that the earliest date I can take the test is NOVEMBER 1st... not October 1st. By that time I really do think that it will be too late.

At this point I can guarantee probably most of these as being rejections... my hope right now are schools like ASDOH (lots of community service), BU, Tufts, NYU and perhaps Temple as the most likely schools to even possibly CONSIDER me 👎

Should I bother and call up these schools to ask? Man i'm so shaken by all of this
