Dilemma: Should I submit my secondary to Midwestern-IL?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
So, I submitted my secondary to Midwestern-AZ already. I just can't decide if I should submit my secondary to Midwestern-IL.

Initially, months ago, I had only planned on applying to Midwestern-AZ, but my friend encouraged me to apply to Midwestern-IL because their secondaries are the same. I caved in. I'm a California resident who prefers to live in hotter places than colder places so I like the thought of living in Arizona better than Illinois. Also, because of the closer proximity to home.

I don't mind the extra $50 to pay since I already paid the AADSAS fee, and since I can just copy and modify a little bit of the secondary from AZ. The twist is out of all the schools that I applied to, both Midwestern universities are the ONLY schools that have a prerequisite that I don't have and would need if I were accepted. I graduated this past June, and my university doesn't have anatomy, so I plan on taking anatomy in the spring term at another college. I heard how useful it was so I thought it would be a good investment.

However, I want to work... so that might not allow for a lot of time slots to take many classes. I thought that I could only fit in maybe one class, which would be anatomy.

THEN, I later found out that Midwestern-IL also requires microbiology WITH LAB! I took microbiology already, but it was without the lab. My school actually doesn't usually include lecture and lab together. If I had taken Microbiology lab, it would have been a separate course on its own. I did not know this until recently because I used my ADEA book 2009 that I bought 2 years, and the requirements for Midwestern-AZ said that it did not REQUIRE LAB for Microbiology. However, the website of Midwestern-IL tells me I need it. I don't know where the requirements for Midwestern-AZ are but I assume they would be the same. I don't know if I have to retake microbiology again with a lab component.

Stats:
I went to a UC. Have a balanced amount of EC, I think.
Overall GPA: 3.52 Science GPA: 3.48
DAT (Bio/Chem/Ochem/Reading/QR/PAT): 19/21/21/20/18/22
20 TS, 20 AA

I'm not sure what to do. I want to put my degree to use and work, so I don't have a lot of extra time to take 2 classes (if I have to take microbiology with lab again ON TOP of anatomy + lab). I also don't know how I feel about living in Illinois. I'm not sure if I would go if I were accepted, but I guess I don't really know what the campus is like so I might have a change of heart later on.

Would I be wasting money if I sent Midwestern-IL the secondary? Would you send the secondary? Does anybody have experience with the two prerequisites of Anatomy with Lab and Microbiology with Lab once accepted???

If you are confident that you'll get in somewhere else and really hate Illinois than don't apply. It'll be $50 down the hole. However, if you're unsure whether you'll get in somewhere and another $50 means you have a shot at another school (and your willing to go to MWUIL if it's the only acceptance) than do it.

well it depends on where you want to go to school. I was recently interviewed at MWU-IL and I loved it, but I do have most prereqs done and the remaining ones I intend to finish.

If you have interviews elsewhere and prefer to go to school elsewhere, then perhaps you shouldnt apply there. However, if you have no other interviews then maybe look into applying.

PS I have heard they have filled up many of their interview slots (esp for the pre December 1 group) and perhaps for the rest of 2011. Not sure so you might want to call them up. Good luck.

Thanks, guys. 👍

I have thought about it and was thinking of not submitting it, but the ease of having a secondary already was tempting me to submit it. So, I wanted to hear other perspectives on this to see if there was anything I didn't consider.

If anybody has any other input, let me know!

At the present moment, I'm most likely not submitting it since I think if I don't get accepted to any school, I don't mind waiting for a school and location that I really want to go to.

Good call. If you know you'll be miserable there then minus well not bother. Sucks your friend talked you into sending a MWUIL application in the first place! Could've used that app fee on a different school.

Microbio with lab could be a typo. In fact, on Pitt's web site it states Biochem with 4 credits as a pre-req. When I brought this up to the admissions people, they said it was a typo and it's really 3 credits. They were aware that many schools don't offer a biochem lab option. They also said that typo has been on their site for a quite a few years lol. So I would call Mid-IL and get a clarification.

LOL most web sites look like they haven't been updated since they were made. That'd be a costly typo, so many misinformed applicants haha
