Here's the deal: I'm a graduate student and indicated on my AMCAS application that I would have my degree by February of this year. Unfortunately, extenuating circumstances prevented me from doing so. It only occurred to me after I interviewed (in March) that I did not notify the school to which I applied of this situation and I was not questioned about it. I despise the program that I'm presently in and would love nothing more than leaving town if I'm accepted into medical school, without the graduate degree (I still have quite a bit of work to do). I'm debating whether I should call the school and mention the oversight or simply ignore the problem and come what may. As I said in a previous post, "honesty is the best policy" and don't want to be hypocritical, but this one's a toughie. Any thoughts on this would be much appreciated. Thanks.

I wish I could think of something more useful than what I'm about to say, but here goes:

1) They invited you for interview DESPITE the fact that you did not yet provide them with an updated transcript indicating completion of your grad degree. And, they didn't bring it up at your interview. Sounds encouraging

2) They review your file and never pick up on the lack of an update indicating degree completion, and grant or deny your admission to the program. Still encouraging

3) They review your file and pick up on the fact that you have not provided an update indicating degree completion, they get worried, and vote to deny your admission. Not so encouraging, and in my mind, the more likely scenario.

I guess since 3 seems the most likely, I have a question for you. Do you think you can finish by June if you give it everything you've got? Then, do you think you can get an advisor to write a letter backing up this new proposed completion date? I'm only speculating here, but I think that might be a safe move. I know firsthand how the ad comms hate unfinished grad degrees.

Good luck,
Kris
