I haven't been able to find a straight answer on this. Are Direct Accessions programs, such as Health Professions Loan Repayment, as competitive as HPSP? I realize it's not as good of a deal, but since my school isn't fully accredited yet, we don't qualify for HPSP. Also, are there as many Loan Repayment slots as HPSP? I would prefer to stay AF, but I'm interested in all of the branches. I appreciate your input.

There are other threads that discuss the topic of HPSP for new schools. These threads explain that all 'provisionally' accredited schools are eligible (at least for Army).

In the Army there are not certain slots for direct accessions - it is an open process. You apply and your application is considered. Recruiters in the Army have a goal for a certain number of direct accessions, but it is not a hard and fast rule. I do see this becoming more competitive in the future as the need for dentists continue to decrease across all services (because of the economy and robust recruiting).

Unfortunately, none of these threads that I have seen account for the recent change. The Navy is no longer awarding scholarships to students attending schools that are under initial accreditation. I have heard this is now general among all the branches. Do you, or can anyone, confirm if this is the case for the Army? How about the AF? I've seen a lot of people reference DODI 6000.13 (JAN 97) where it talks about schools under "provisional" accreditation are eligible for HPSP, but something has changed and I haven't been able to find any documentation. Does anyone know where I can find the regulations for this change?
