I'm looking for some advice and information about disabilty insurance in the civilian world after i get out of the military. I've had a few very minor musculoskeletal injuries while active, and they're in my medical records now. It seems that most of the demtists I have worked with have to go to their mandatory separation VA appointment before getting out. Several of them ended up getting a pretty high disability rating for similar mild musculoskeletal conditions that have resolved, and now receive a monthly payment for it. They don't seem to be having issues with getting their disability insurance.
However, when I talk to my dentist friends who have never been in the military, they NEVER go see a doctor about anything (like not even a stuffy nose) bc they all have horror stories about being denied disability coverage or getting ridiculous rates the silliest things .
Does anyone know if there are laws, regulations, etc, that allow "disabled" vets to receive disability insurance? Im NOT asking this because I'm fishing the make false VA claims, but simply to know how hard I should try avoiding any forced VA disability ratings when it's my time to get out. I do currently carry a small civilian policy, so hopefully that will help.
