I'm starting residency in a couple weeks and was interested in purchasing individual disability insurance. Does anyone have recommendations for providers that are specialty specific for PM&R?

Thanks!

MetLife has a great own occupation policy for physicians. Smart to get it now!

There are only 7 carriers that offer true own specialty definitions for PM&R Guardian, Standard, Ameritas, MetLife, Principal, Mass and Ohio National. All other carriers will reduce benefits if you can't do your specialty and are off doing another occupation based on income lost.

I represent all insurance companies such as Metlife, Guardian, Principal, Mass, Northwestern Mutual and others. I normally try to match your residency program with the right contractual agreement of the insurance policy otherwise you might be paying for a policy that doesn't do what you think it might.
I can help if you are interested.
Thanks

Disability insurance is a crock! Biggest scam I've ever heard of.... they make a killing off us poor docs. Sad state of affairs

So dont buy it.
Dammit Steve why are you following me around SDN?! Truth be told, I actually dropped mine when I went back to the va

It is a necessity if you are a doc raising a family and with loans.
