is there a significant disadvantage of not applying right on Sept 1st for GS residency, but applying with a complete application within the first few of weeks in Sept (say by Sept 15th)?

Granted it has been somewhere between 6 & 8 years since I entered the GSurge ERAS/Match/Etc.... but, at that time there was no disadvantage that I could tell or any of my advisors could perceive to taking an extra week or more to assure your application was "complete" (to the best of your ability) and in good shape.

Most of us applied with partially "incomplete" applications because our dean letters & surgery chief letters were late in coming (usually somewhere around November!!!). We did not wait on those to submit our application.

There is absolutely no disadvantage to applying September 15 as compared to September 1st.

This is not medical school with rolling admissions. You can apply on 9/1/09 with an incomplete application and programs may still offer interviews based on whats in the file, or you can wait and submit whatever you have on 9/15/09. There will be no difference.
