I have heard many recommendations from upperclassmen at my school telling me to use UWorld during the school year.

On SDN however, people seem to say buy another qbank during the year then buy uworld before the exam.

But uworld is like 2000+ questions and everyone keeps saying how the explanations are all super helpful but super dense. Why not learn these explanations early on?

I'm afraid if I save UWorld for the end, I might be too hung up on getting through everything and not spend enough time reviewing everything

A lot of people have been saying they would have loved to done Uworld again on the 2012 step 1 experiences thread. Go ahead and use it. How is it going to hurt you in any way?

Also....I go to a school with a lazy SGA. Could anyone be so kind to PM me a group discount code? :xf:

Get UsmleRX for the school year and use first aid. The RX qbank is from the same people who wrote first aid so it will test your knowledge from first aid. Then plan your review time so you can afford to do 2 passes through uworld and do uworld twice before step1.

Thats at least with hindsight how I wished I would have done it. I bought kaplan qbank and gave up on it and scrambled to finish uworld 1.5 times. I could have improved that with rx and uworld x2

Don't do UW during the year. UW is an excellent qbank that integrates material brilliantly. Even if you do the subject-specific questions during the year, you won't be able to make all the appropriate integrations until you've really learned all the material. One of UW's strengths is their answer explanations, which give you good info not only about the subject at hand, but also about peripherally related subjects. For instance, you may have an endocrine question, but the answer explanation gives you lots of good info on cardio/heme. You'll miss out on a lot of useful stuff if you haven't learned cardio/heme yet.

UW is also a good assessment tool for dedicated study time.. you can utilize it to see if you're really making all the connections properly. Even if you redo it during dedicated study time it loses its effect.

Might as well get another qbank (kaplan?) for the year

How is anyone going to be disadvantaged by starting early and learning from the explanations?

Why would you want to save it when scores of people wish they had through uworld another time or two even?

If you want to drill First Aid into your head, wouldnt gunnertraining be better for that? Im struggling to see the logic here

Rx is terrible. Use Gunner Training if you want to learn First Aid cold. I wish I knew about it in first year or even early in second year.

i think the only disadvantage is the lack of a great self assessment tool down the road

the huge advantage is knowing the material way better

a disdvtange is $$$$
