Hi everybody,

I was wondering what are some of the disadvantages for pharmacists of working in a non-patient care environment?
(To those of you working in industry/manufacturing/legal...etc...)

This is a question for one of my pharmacy classes, and who better to ask but actual pharmacists.
I am completely stumped.

Your knowledge of day to day pharmaceutical care will diminish.

Not hearing that someone's cat knocked all their Vicodin in the toilet and having them bring you an rx vial full of wet flour in a Ziplock bag would be the biggest disadvantage in my book.

Non-patient care jobs have ways of making life hell. The people who call are nurses instead of patients. Or you have to check so many scripts per hour, or answer/make so many phone calls. This is what I've heard from mail order/LTC pharmacists at least.

My observation has been when I've heard pharmacists in non-patient care settings talk is that they tend to quickly fall behind in what are the newest drugs on the market, what are the newest generics coming out, etc. I'm sure that is not true of all pharmacists in those practice settings, but I've been surprised by how much more I knew as an active intern in a retail setting compared to some pharmacists about the above topics.
