Disbelief at Getting an Acceptance?

Hey all, I recently got my first acceptance to an MD school I love and I'm still in disbelief that this is even happening. I keep checking the portal just to be sure that I didn't dream the whole thing. Anyone else have this feeling? (I promise, I didn't make this post just to brag about an acceptance. This has actually been somewhat anxiety-inducing for me, so just looking for some solidarity or advice!)

oh yeah, even AFTER STARTING MEDICAL SCHOOL for a while i had this feeling like they will call me and say, "oh, oooops, sorry, that was an acciddent. we didnt mean to send it to you".

I’m big time feeling this too right now. I got into my state MD school this past Friday and so I was just about to drop my acceptance from another DO school but.. like... what if they (MD school) made a mistake and didn’t mean to send me the email and I lose my only other acceptance?! Really silly stuff. This is surreal.

I am not advocating for violence but just to confirm that you are not dreaming, ask a loved one to give you a good slap and then check the portal again 🙂

Very common with high achievers. I've seen many posts in these fora that they're sympathy accepts, which do not exist in real life. Imposter syndrome is real and so just have a little faith in yourself.

Just go with the flow. I am 69, 7 years retired from a very successful career by any measure, and I STILL have the inadequacy med school/ residency/ forgotten exam, etc. dreams. If it is you, just recognize it for what it is and live with it.

This is exactly what I'm feeling! An MD state school I love accepted me, even with a bumpy past, and despite high stats, I was guarding my heart about whether I'd even get a single acceptance, MD or DO. I'm having a hard time relinquishing my DO acceptances because what if my school, despite the fact that my bumpy past is clearly explained, delineated, defended in the application, and discussed in the interview, suddenly decides I'm really not worthy and they cared more than they thought and says, "Oops! We made a mistake! You really can't come here. " Mind you, six DO schools have also accepted me, so I doubt they all made a mistake, but what if?!?

Felt the same way about fellowship. To be honest, I frequently feel the same way about my wife. Sometimes it's still a bit shocking to me that I have gotten as far as I have.

Be grateful for what you have. And remember to count your blessings and not your curses.

It's real, enjoy the elation. I still remember the feeling, like walking on air. Go post on when you found out you got in, how did you react ? so you can come back and re live the experience when you feel burned out, and be reminded why you want to be a doctor.
