For disc procedures, what are your protocols from an infection prevention standpoint?

I actually don’t do any disc procedures. I saw that SIS was offering a course on disc access and just got me thinking, if this is being done, how are people keeping it safe?

I actually got two referrals recently for discogram from neurosurgery in the last month. Hate turning down good referrals but I also never got trained in them or have done one

Sign of a surgeon looking for a fusion. You do not need those referrals. But maybe a chance to update the education of the surgeon.

IV abx and intradiscal.

Heh. I’m sure the neurosurgeons would looove that education session.

If they are sending a ton of stuff, they may be receptive to hear what you say. If they are sending discos only, they can do them themselves. Either way, doing the right thing is more satisfying than dooming a patient to unnecessary fusion.

My last two disco referrals from spine surgeons (two different surgeons) amounted to one question. I simply ask the question “do you want surgery?” Both patients said “no way do I want surgery.”
No disco for you
