To what extent do disciplinary actions have on Dental school applications? I have two alcohol related offenses now. One for possession, and the other for consumption. At judicial affairs I was told that I will have to report the written reprimands for these charges on my application. Should I just completely give up my dream of dentistry or even graduate school? Is there anyone out there who has gone through a similar situation and made it out on top who can give me some hope?

Thanks.

Underage drinking? How long ago was it? Are the offenses through the school or through the court system?

Nah, all hope is not lost. The application has a section where you can explain your disciplinary actions. Just write what they were and what you learned from it, etc. Most schools, adcoms, and interviewers understand that you do stupid things when you're young, especially concerning alcohol consumption. As long you didn't kill someone or did something completely insane. The important thing is what you learned from it. Is every school going to brush it aside? No. But not every school will throw you into the trash heap. If you have a good application, GPA, DAT score, LORs, volunteering, etc., then you should be okay.

Like others have said here, don't give up on your dream of going to dental school. I know of plenty of people with disciplinary records who have gotten into dental school. Even though they have a less-than-perfect disciplinary history, admissions committees are looking at the whole application, and won't throw out their applications because of something that happened a while ago. It is important to make sure that you explain everything thoroughly and talk about how you grew from that experience, and what you learned. Try to make a positive out of a negative, and that will show growth and maturity.

Thanks everyone. I really appreciate the insight. I guess that best thing I can do now is work hard and don't stop until I get that letter in the mail. Having a backup plan wouldn't be a bad idea, either.

as long as you took the classes and got the stuff off your record you should be fine! I have a friend who had a DUI but took classes and had the breathalyzer in his car all that, but he got accepted to a professional school. Just make sure your squared up with the law/!👍

No one knows for sure. Were the two offenses part of the same incident? Or two separate incidents? If the latter, then it's not good.

They were two separate instances. I know that any offenses on a record are going to look bad, and basically I was told that Admissions Committees look for patterns in disciplinary actions. Of course, more than one time is definitely a pattern. I guess the question is this now: do I have to work double as hard to get into dental school and have absolutely no room for error?

Indicate the entire offense but make sure you end the statement on a positive note. I had a few academic probations and low GPA warnings and I thought this would make me look less competitive. But I was wrong, no one ever brought this up during my interviews and I managed to get multiple acceptances.

As long as your honest and you explain yourself in detail you'll be fine. Also just remember to end your statement positively to indicate that you've learned from the experience and have succeeded academically afterwards (or smth like that.)
