I'm a premed student at an ivy league college. Because of the weak economy, my father has been unemployed for the past year. Consequently, my family was unable to pay tuition on time last semester, and I was thus forced to register two weeks late. Well, it turns out that my late registration counted as a violation of university conduct, and I now have a minor disiplinary infraction ("admonish") on my transcript. So, when I apply to medical schools, I will have to say I received a disciplinary mark, but I can explain that it was due to financial circumstances completely outside of my control. Will this negatively hurt my med school applications? Should I fight tooth and nail to appeal the administrative decision leading to this disciplinary mark, or is this too minor of an issue to raise a huge fuss over at my college?

argue with them. this is a ridiculous reason to have a disciplinary action on your record.

NO!!! you have a legit excuse so you should fight. Send medical schools letters explaining why there is this mark.

If any medical school does not accept you for this, it is their loss, not yours.

I cannot see any medical school 'penalizing' you for that 'admonishment' on your undergrad record-unless it is your alma mater that you will be applying to.
As long as you are truthful as to why you 'received' that 'blemish' on your record I cannot see any adcom using it against you.
Petition to have it removed, perhaps even tell your alma mater to be-- that you were 'hoping' to apply there and there is no worry of fees being paid late as you will be taking out loans (i.e., the school will be paid). Trick em!
