i have been hearing this rumor that the class of 2009 will not be required to take Step 2 CS (nation wide).... anyone heard this?

We were told CS (or a CS like exam) is still going to be around when they do the big boards overhaul in a few years. So, not likely.

CS is not going anywhere...ever. Be thankful that it's pass/fail - when they combine step 1 and 2 CK into one power exam (to be taken at the end of 4th year - again possibly pass/fail but is at yet to be decided), then it will be the only thing that programs have to go by to objectively compare you to other residency applicants = don't fail.

I have heard rumors from some at my school that this exam my eventually be phased out because its results are being scrutinized and don't seem to meet the requirements for being "standardized". I personally think it will take many years and alot of money wasted before they finally retire this POS.

The first thing that we have to do as students/graduates is to call attention to the glaring problems with this exam and to force the AAMC/NBME to get their heads out of their @sses and drop this thing. We are going to have to start screaming before we are going to be heard.

Student's need to "unionize" . . . if everyone just told them to take CS and shove it up their a$$, what would they do? The medical system will need interns, what will they do?

I'm very serious about this. No one else is relaly looking out for docs in training. It's about time we started ourselves.

it appears that everyone wants to get their hands in the pockets of future doctors... if not via horrendous tuition increases, then it is via $1000 pointless exams. i am in for unionizing, if you are!

1) They'd open the floodgates to foreigners

2) They'd let NPs and PAs into residencies. NPs are ALREADY clamoring for govt supported residency slots and they'd love nothing more than to steal them from us.

Already took and passed this POS (on the second try), but I'm willing to support anyone who thinks this is a good idea. We can get together but it will take some momentum.
