Was hoping to get advice on an iffy topic for challenge/adversity secondary essays. My former best friend (who had previously been a significant other) faced depression for a long time and I was always their main support person. No one else cared, even the parents knew but wouldn't do anything to help. I wound up learning of a suicide attempt and was the only person who knew. Long story short I wound up informing the parents, give them advice on how to act because they were freaking out, did a night of suicide watch, and did a bunch of stuff to make it so that this friend could access mental health services.During all this the friendship became pretty toxic, I was lied to a lot and treated terribly by this friend, the family was pressuring me to help a ton, and I was spending a ton of time dealing with this in the middle of having a bunch of tests and other time consuming activities. Ultimately, I stayed there for the friend despite all the crap and managed to convince the family that help was needed and did hat was necessary so that they could access mental health services.

Side note, my other challenge/adversity topic deals with holding a job in one city while leading a club in another city a few hours away. I managed to drive between the two cities multiple times a week and wound up being very successful in both endeavors.

I am curious if the experts here feel that this would be a good topic. My only specific thought is that the deteriorated friendship may be incidental and detract From the point of the story. It may have also been an extension of the mental health problem itself. I think the point would be that you helped a friend in need.
