Hi,

I just did the first block (50 questions) of NBME 1 without starting any studies and got 23/50. less than 50%...I feel so disheartened. What should I do? any advice please. thanks.

Study more?

Not sure where you want us to point you. How much dedicated study time have you burned? How much till your exam? Which of the many, well thought out and validated study plans posted around here have you tried and not liked? What did you not like about them? What resources do you have available to you? I feel like I'm getting sucked into a little troll eddy current here...

same...i keep telling him to check out www.usmle-forums.com he'll have better luck with people giving him info

Hi Pons,
well I studied physiology from Kaplan notes and studied upper limb, thorax and head&neck from snells and it took me a couple of months to do that. I don't have a specific number of hours of study per day. I try to read FA but it doesn't make much sense/seems like new material. I have a lot of material I can study from but just not able to cover much of it. Sorry if you feel like you're getting dragged into something....I don't know what is a troll.

Hi Jonari. Thanks, I've started posting there too. I'm trying my luck posting on all the major USMLE forums.

Your score indicates that you need to really make some big changes if you really want to pass the exam.

Start with your weak points and make them your strongest. Start with a plan that works for you and make sure you are able to stick to it without distractions everyday.
When you study make sure your dedicated time is protected and no one comes into your room to disturb you and let everyone else know not to bother you during your studying time. Remove all the distractions and turn off your laptop/cell phone until you are done studying. Another important point, make sure you time your self when you study each subject. Don't spend the whole day studying one subject. Divide it into hours.
Go through post of other students and see what worked for them and how they planned out their day. Some of the students even posted their pdf schedules for others to use. That will give you lots of information on how to go about improving your low score. Once you read their post and see how organized, determined, and devoted they were to their studies, it will help you feel motivated too.

You need to stop feeling disheartened and change that into energy and drive towards your goal. Then take another NBME. and you will most likely do way better.
