Hey everyone, I was just wondering what are the benefits and majoring in an undergraduate degree such as neuroscience. Also what would be the benefits of graduating at the top of your class in this subject. Do medical schools look at this when you apply? How can this benefit you? I know that having a bachelors degree in neuroscience will not get you anywhere but will this be a good foundation for getting into medical school and showing that you're a dedicated student?
I would love some feedback.

Thanks everyone

It will be looked upon just like everything else. It's a science major, that's all.

And in fact I would be careful with the major and make sure that when you take foundational/elective course for the major you do so in courses that will count toward your BCPM GPA. A lot of times neuro departments will let you/require you to take psych courses that do not count toward BCPM, and can be sort of a GPA drag.

Distinction within your major can also come from research participation.

False. Psych courses would raise your cumulative GPA and may even better prepare for the new MCAT

As others have said, your major doesn't really matter when it comes to getting into med school. But Neuroscience is fun! If you're interested in the classes, you'll be more likely to do well. So do whatever sounds interesting to you.

Nice try, but I mentioned psych in relation to the BCPM GPA. Sure psych will raise the cGPA but that is of lesser importance. Better to take upper level bio courses and get A's in them

Major means nothing. It is your GPA and courseload that matters. Distinction is for research and that is always a plus.
