Does it make a difference if I distinguish whether I'm taking transport calls or 911 calls for my EMT activity on the primary app? I've worked in both sectors and I'm not sure if adcoms would care about the difference.

I think you're splitting hairs with that. It might come up in your personal statement/secondary essays, but I don't think it really matters in the activities section.

Adcoms won't really care. It's something you can go in depth on in the description.

doesn't matter

I'm actually going to go the other way here. I mentioned both and was asked about my 911 experience at every interview where they read my application (i.e. not MMI) and it was mentioned in my acceptance letter at my current school. So I would probably mention it for sure somewhere, but where is personal choice.

i figured it couldn't hurt to include the distinction in the works and activities description in an "EMT-B" listing haha (cuz why not?). I also realized the distinction was a huge detail in my personal statement, but I just couldn't elaborate anywhere else.

I'm also curious, are acceptance letters personalized then? I'm surprised they included your experiences in there

I guess the tricky question is, will AdComs understand the difference without a lengthy explanation? I know when I mention it to people, I usually have to explain the distinction. The general public doesn't understand that there are different types of ambulance service providers. AdCom members might be more informed, or they might not. When I worked in the hospital, the doctors just knew that they called a phone number, and an ambulance showed up to transfer the patient. I don't think they thought about how that particular ambulance crew only does transfers, not 911 calls.

That said, if you have the space to work it in, I don't think it would hurt! If not, I wouldn't worry about it. Every character is precious, and brevity is golden. I'm not planning on distinguishing between the two on my app, but my mind could change 100 times between now and June.

I get that. I'm just a little confused since I've seen a lot of adcoms on here say EMTs are viewed as "glorified taxi drivers" while the general public as you mention view EMTs as some godsend (both views of which I think are heavily flawed). This distinction made me think adcoms, at least the ones posting about it on SDN, are aware of the fact that most EMTs only work in IFT, which is an assumption I'd like to avoid if it's not the truth for me.

I'll just add it anyways in the description since it doesn't hurt!

Had the same experience. By reading both my PS and activity descriptions it was clear that I've done both 911 and BLS transport, but during my interviews I talked solely about my 911 experience.

Include it. It’s an important distinction and some adcoms will understand the difference. It takes maybe 100 characters to say you did both.

Depends on the school, the school I attend is the only one who sent a personalized one to me out of my acceptances. I would say on average the large majority of schools don’t but don’t have any actual data to back that up.
