Earlier this year I signed up for the Doctors in Training course through a special that was offered at my medical school. Because my medical school anticipates that most second-year students will take the exam in April, DIT offered two options: take the 2011 course (already available) or wait until the 2012 version of course comes out on March 12, 2012.

I have tentatively signed up for the 2011 course, but I was wondering if it would make sense to utilize other resources and get access to the updated 2012 version when it comes out. I realize most people probably haven't utilized two separate DIT courses from two consecutive years, but I was wondering if it made sense to use the 2011 version (and my already-annotated-and-adored 2011 First Aid), or shift gears and use 2012 FA along with the 2012 DIT course. I imagine the updated course will be somewhat improved, but I'm unsure how much and I'm really more concerned with my study timeline.

More details:
  • Tentative dedicated Step 1 study time start date: February 23
  • Date that the 2012 DIT course is first available: March 12 (18 days after I start studying)
  • NBME CBSE (mini Step 1 that is required before sitting for Step 1): March 30 (18 days after the 2012 DIT course comes out)
  • My Step 1 exam date: April 19 (20 days after I take the CBSE)

Many thanks in advance for humoring my neurotic concerns.

I would say to stick with 2011. Especially considering you have already been using 2011 first aid and the errata for it is available.

Dear TyrKinase, since you have already been annotating your FA 2011, I think you should continue to use it and to memorize it along with the DIT 2011 course. Would you be so kind to tell me what is the minimum score on the NBME CBSE test that your med school requires you to achieve prior to sitting for the real Step 1 exam? I would really appreciate your answer. Thank you and best wishes, Bertie
