decided to scrap my diversity essay because it was a bit risky (growing up as a christian pastor's kid in a family where everyone from my great grandparents to my aunts/auncles/parents were/are pastors) and i was wondering if I could somehow use my interest in tea as my ~500 word essay on how Id' enhance the school's diversity. i'm struggling a lot so any help would be much appreciated.
1. due to my dad, i got interested in the various types of teas and specifically, traditional Asian tea ceremonies. I'm Korean and I got really interested in learning the details of ceremonies and the differences between Korean, Chinese, and Japanese cceremonies because the differences all reflected the differences in the cultures. i know a lot about tea brewing/steeping techniques and ceremonies, and I really like to share tea with my friends/other people because it's one of the ways i connect to people. i like the relaxing/open environment sharing a cup of tea creates too. if i connected this to medicine/diversity somehow, would this be an okay idea or is it a stretch?
2. do clinical research w/ medically underserved populations over the age of 40 who are diagnosed w a certain disease. I often go to clinics and interact with the patients and I would like to focus on underserved populations in medical school/residency/beyond. I also volunteer at a shelter for at risk children teaching them science. I guess I'm just really focused on serving the local community which for me is an urban city with many minorities. I wrote a lot about this in my PS/activities section though.
