I'm having some trouble thinking about what to write for the standard 'What makes you diverse' prompts. I'm bilingual, was born in another country but moved her at just 6 months so I don't think it's enough for me to talk about my experiences in 2 different cultures although I do visit my home country, and I volunteered as a housing justice league caller where I helped people with housing problems (esp due to covid-19) who spoke my mother tongue. While these are just a few things that are the standard diverse aspects, I feel like they're too typical so I don't think I should use them. As for slightly more interesting things, which I'm wondering would be worth twisting into a diversity essay:
- I'm very interested in languages, so I often watch shows in other languages and try to pick up on the language. That is how I learned Hindi, which has also helped me when I see Hindi patients. Been working on learning a couple other languages too.
or
- I've always been into mysteries - whether it be books or movies, crime podcasts etc. and they always helped me think outside of the box which is why research fascinated me so much. Wondering if it makes sense to talk about how medicine is like a mystery too to tie in the clinical aspect?
or something else?
