Has anyone had any experience in creating their own international experience for the summer after MS1? I'm entering med school in August, but I want to start figuring out summer plans for next year. I'd really like to do some independent research in China, but my school doesn't really have any international programs available. Anyone have any experience in this area?

Spending a summer doing research in a foreign country is unlikely to lead to much in the way of publications. Just doesn't seem worth it.

That is true. I'm not planning on doing scientific research however but rather comparative methods/med anthro research. I don't know if there are any grants that are available exclusively to med students, or perhaps universities that already have partnerships already in China that I could contact to help me find a mentor in that area.

Thanks!
