Dmd And/or Mph???

I passed the NDB part I last december the 13th. I'm still waiting for the result. I'm not really sure about dentistry anymore and was thinking about another option such as MPH. I heard about DPH but don't really know what it's about. I invested 10 years of my life in Dentistry, I don't wanna change career that easily. And the same time, I feel like by having a MPH with emphasize on International Health, I can contribute somehow to the so called "third world" where I'm from. I just watch this movie: Hotel Rwanda. It brought me to tears and made me think a lot. Is there anybody out there who shares my dilemma? Is there a school who has a combo DMD/MPH for foriegn-trained dentists? Anybody with the experience of having made the move from DMD to MPH? Any comment on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

Doing an MPH and a DDs is a really good option, but once you get into a DDS program its so hectic that it becomes difficult to do both at the same time.You could do your DDs 1st and then MPH or the other way around, whatever you think suits your needs better.
If you are interested in international health, thenDPH is not going to help you too much.I think MPH would be a better choice.

Thank you for your response. What you said made sense. I figure that it'll be a lot work to do both DMD and MPH at the same time. I just get the result of the part I I took. i didn't have a good score. I'm gonna have to retake it again. Do you know if foreign-dentist need to have a GRE score in order to get in a MPH program? Are you in a MPH program or do you hold one?

its good to know that u r interested in doing mph program....but i have heard that after doing it there r not many jobs available...if u r doing dph then dds degree is a must to get a job ...and if u r doing mph having an md degree will help.....im not sure but in my opinion its better if u find out what r the options and oppurtunities available in a public health field it will be better..

hi ...........its good to hear that u are interested in MPH ..............i would advise u to do MPH rather than DPH ..............i too have admission in 2 univs in DPH for this fall i am droppping it as u dont get tuition waivers and secondly u dont have much less paid job ..........but doing dds and mph together is a good option the thing is u have to keep pace with both of them ............i dont think MPH demands much of the time .............if i try u will do it ...........i would be doing the same .........DDS + MPh............many univs are offering such courses...............

For GRE you will need Barron's. Read the vocab part and math is pretty easy.. Hope that helps.. 🙂

I have completed BDS and also I gave GRE(308) and TOEFL(106).I am more intrested in a non-clinical career and hence I have applied for DPH and MS in biomaterials. I wanted to ask which one should I opt for? and if given a option MPH or else DPH which I should opt?
