Can anyone briefly tell me the difference between DDS and DMD ?

Can a DMD person operate on patients?

Are there any benefits that a DDS person get comparing to DMD person ?

It’s not like MD/DO. DDS and DMD share the same roles as dentists and are trained to do the same things. It’s more of a formality with schools. The history behind DMD is quite interesting, worth a read.

As universities were being founded in the United States, the diplomas, following the European standard, were printed in Latin. Fast forward to today and most diplomas are now printed in English. Some Universities, such as the University of Pennsylvania, prints their diplomas in Latin. The DMD is an abbreviation for Dentariae Medicinae Doctoris (Doctor of Dental Medicine). Similarly, the MD is an abbreviation for Medicinae Doctoris (Doctor of Medicine), not medical doctor. That being said, these are two separate and equal degrees recognized by the dental profession.
