Not going to DMU, but I went to undergrad in Texas. I have been gone for almost three years now. That was some good grub. I miss it!

Haha, I love it. My mom was raised in the midwest and couldn't handle the southern drawl her babies had adapted, she decided it was time to move back north. But when she's mad, she still manages to sneak in a few "fixn"s as she's yelling. I'll be listening for the "ya'll"s and "fixn' to"s around DMU in August!
Yeah I'm just waiting for the "do you have a horse?" and "so you must eat beans and cornbread a lot huh?" questions. I've never lived outside Texas but I'm looking forward to an actual winter for a change.

New DMUers, if you are looking for housing options, I would suggest looking on the DMU classifieds. There are homes for sale and rent by fellow DMUers. If you don't have access to the portal yet, PM me and I'd be happy to send you links to the different listings.

Does anyone know if the class is full yet, or near to being full? I just received my interview request, and would love to go there, but I would imagine the class must be pretty full by this time. Any ideas? Thanks.

Yeah asking Meghan is the best way to find out for sure. Yet I doubt they'd ask you for an interview if they were already full.

All programs (MD/DO/DPM/DDS/PA/DPT) continue interviewing after they fill. They have waiting lists and deferment spots that they will offer. If you accept 60 students, you want back ups for those spots. What happens if a student puts a deposit down at two schools? Or if someone has a personal problem (death in the family, sickness, ect)?

You can get wait listed in October at the begining of the year.
Meghan got back to me and said that although the class is not full yet, they are telling people that will be coming to interview that they may be interviewing for a waitlist spot. I will be interviewing next friday.
On a side note, does anyone know how often people get accepted from the waitlist? I guess I will ask next week.

I wouldn't count on it, it was a really rough winter. The artic windchill that they get here is killer you end up with negative 20's and such. I just hope that our remaining winters are not so cold.
I thought we took care of that with global warming...? Oh well, anything but the Texas heat.

For those students starting at DMU next year if you are married or have a significant other that is moving up the area with you there is a great club at DMU for your spouse or significant other called SAA.
Gustydoc first told me about it after we found out we were going to DMU and it is a great place to meet other people, as you students will get to know lots of people in your class and will be busy studying.
It helped me a lot especially at first so I didn't feel quite so homesick and was able to keep busy and not notice how much my husband was gone studying because I had so many fun activities to be involved with during those times.

I'm sorry to tell you that we've got that too. In the summer is gets into the 100s with nasty humidity.

👍 My wife felt the same way and it is nice that the university really tries to make the families of the students feel like they are apart of the med school experience. Glad to hear you are acclimating well. Enjoy the ride the four years go fast.
