Hey guys!!

I am applying to go to medical school next year and DMU is my number one choice. Although, I have not actually seen the city or campus I just have a good feeling about it. I love the fact that they have such a tradition, an DO/MPH program, a harvey machine, and are trying to improve the technology at the school.
I really don't know why it strikes me so well but it does. I just feel like I am made to go there. Plus reading all you guys posts and listening to the neat stuff that you have done (JP) just makes me sooooo excited!! I feel that I would fit in so well you people like you guys.
I have been working on my app. the last few weeks and I'll do a little bit more revising before I turn it in, hopefully, in the next few weeks. I can't wait to be able to visit the school. Hopefully, I will get to be a part of this wonderful program.
I wish you guys all the best in your future endeavors and I hope to see you in some time in the near future.

P.S. My background: I graduated from small liberal arts college in Arkansas May 2002 and I am currently working at NASA as a research scientist in Washington D.C. I took the MCAT this past April and am awaiting my results. Wish me luck!!

things are so crazy right now.. i'm trying to arrange a trip to iowa and my best friend is getting married tomorrow and work never stops.... Jane you are so lucky to be unemployed!!

anyways, i'm still contemplating my options, I guess i'm just not so sure that I really want to wait another LONG year to start med school... already 2 years of waiting are long enough

good luck on your apt hunt this week Jane... let us know what you find... I really would like something across from campus and preferrably with a parking spot for my car 😉

so what's next??? there are so many things going on .. I always feel like i'm missing some deadline or other.

Jane, Have fun at Matrix.... It's really interesting how they've incorporated Philosophy into the movie.... I took philosophy in college and we've discuss some of the things they've brough up in the movie.... weird and interesting stuff.... ENJOY!!!

Hey guys! I'm in DSM!! The weather is awesome right now. Warmer than SF actually. It's supposed to be dry until Monday, but I did bring an umbrella. I like it here. I didn't know there were so many little shopping areas! Gonna check out the campus tomorrow, and go downtown.

So Prad, did you ever figure out how you're moving all of your stuff?

Yeah, I figure out how to move. I'm not brining anything with me. All my stuff here is crap except my desk which is being used by my dad now. I'm buying all the things I need when I get to DSM. Hey all!

So I just signed a lease for the Imperial, with a garage space. It's going to be serviced by the WiFi system from DMU, so that's lovely. Prad, I saw your place! It's really really nice, but they didn't have any vacancies at this time (for 1bdrms). I also looked at the Four Seasons, and it's a bit far from school (not far by Bay Area standards, but farther than the ones across the street from school 😀). It's got a nice pool, the people are SOOO friendly, but the unit was a little smaller than the Imperial's. Reilly Grand looks like a nice place, but they only have 2bdrms.

The weather is great! Everyone I've talked to around here has been telling me how it was really wet last week, and now it's like, 70 degrees. The Valley West shopping mall is great! I was able to get a vacuum cleaner and microwave from Target and put them in my storage space. It's a good idea to ask wherever you're renting if you get a storage locker, so that you can get some stuff while you're in town and it'll be waiting for you when you move in.

I met this girl that will be in our class, she's from Colorado, and I told her to get on here so she can join us in our fun! haha.

Anyway, Rick, let us know how your weekend went!

new here. i'm going to visit des moines in early june. not sure yet.
for looking at apartments, do i have to make appointments ahead of time for all of them? also are there any places i should defintely avoid?

I really want to live close to campus. Hopefully there'll still be some places left. Thanks for your help!

Hey abeemo!

I made appointments for both places I saw, and called a bunch before I came. This is because I came on a weekend. Prad (docgeorge) had a lot of luck just going around and knocking on doors (you did do that, right Prad?? hehe). If you want, Venture management has a website (www.venturellc.com) and you can download and send them an application, so that all you have to do when you get here is look at the place and sign the lease if you want it. '

I would advise you to call as many places as you can, tell them you're interested in whatever sized apartment you are looking for (i.e. studio, 1bdrm, etc), so that they'll probably let you know first if they do have an opening later on.

There are some places that don't look like they're worth looking at, but you'll know once you get here. And there are plenty of apartments very close to campus, so I'm sure you'll get something.

Let us know when you'll be in DSM. Maybe Prad and myself will already be moved in.

Hey guys,

I just got back from DSM tonight. We found a place in West Des Moines off of E.P. True Pkway. It's called Summerwood. It's set back in a residential neighborhood and the manager told us that there are 6 or 7 DMUers already living there, and will have a couple more moving in this summer. It's not too bad in terms of distance (~6 miles from campus).

Jane, where did you see The Matrix at? Because Kelly and I also saw it last night. We went to the Southridge Mall off Army Post Road. It was pretty f$%#ing sweet wasn't it?
To answer your question, Kelly will be in a comatose stupor while anxiously awaiting my return home each night...she can't function without me! Kidding, of course. Actually she'll probably do Medical Billing from the apartment, so she can stay home with Teagan.

Speaking of Teagan, she was not happy with us this weekend for leaving her home with Grandma. You should have saw the attitude she gave us.....She gets that from her MOTHER!!!!

Prad, too late...Just gave it to her the other night...I shall call her....... MINI-ME!
She'll have all the butch babies knocking on her crib!

I live in philly now and work at the kimmel cancer center, I'll be in philly till the end of june. then, I'm moving home for a month, backpacking/cycling, and chillin' out until I move to dsm, which will probably be end of july/beginning of august. I'm looking for a roommate, preferably male, clean, someone who's laid back but not lazy or too much of a partier.

I'm 23, unmarried but I have a wonderful girlfriend who lives in philadelphia right now. she may be joining me in dsm in the future. I'm looking for a place to live that's close to campus and relatively cheap, and I'm definitely in the market for a roommate. I love cycling, though I don't know how much time I'll have for it with school and all. I'm doing stem cell transplantation research now, and I'd like to get into surgery, which is one of my primary reasons for selecting DMU over other schools. I'm not too thrilled about moving from philly to dsm, I'm a mover and a shaker, and I don't know how much stuff there is to do in des moines. I'm really looking forward to getting to know you guys, im me some time, it's jeev2020.

Welcome to all of you. You will definitely enjoy living in Des Moines and attending DMU. My name is Than Greenwood. I am a second year student and will be heading to Florida for rotations. I can't wait.
I have notepool from both my first (01-02) and second (02-03)year that I would like to sell. The notes are complete and are organized by class. Also included with the notes are the notepackets that were purchased in the bookstore for each class. The notes do have hilighting since I used them quite a bit.
Now, if some of you aren't familiar with notepool it is rough transcripts of each lecture that are written in outline form by students. I have fully relied upon it to get me through med school thus far.
If anyone is interested please contact me. I am willing to sell each year for $100 or $150 for both years.
Again, guys, you made a great choice by coming to DMU. You will have a good time.

Hey Rick!! I was down by 50th and E.P. True Parkway last night. There's this plaza with a restaurant called Jesse's Embers West, which is where I had that to-die-for pecan pie. Their ribs and steak were awesome as well. I saw the Matrix in SF. I'm actually going to see it again next week with my brother 😀 😀
