Aww, nothing's deadly about black and brown combinations. Just an old fashion rule. But if you wear it with style, it doesn't matter what color it is!

Did you get a chance to look at the thread about DMU's dean, JP? I have no idea what that's about. Hope the studying is going well!

where is that thread about the dean?

Oh yeah jane, as to what Rick looks like. Look at Tegan, imagine her a little bit older, and give her a buzz cut and you've got rick

We both interviewed on the same day...Come to think of it, Prad was wearing the infamous Black Shoes with a Brown Belt:laugh:

I wore it with style, confidence and grace They naturally saw how awsome I am and let me in.

Just for further clarification--was the brown a dark brown or a light brown? Not that it's okay to wear brown with black, but maybe it wasn't noticeable...

Also, one must consider burgundy or "cordovan" as it's referred to by some manufacturers. Most people think that men only have two choices--brown and black--not so. I, for one, would try only to wear a navy suit with dark brown, but a slightly lighter blue suit with cordovan, depending on the shirt and tie combinations.

I'm just bustin your balls, prad. That's what I get for living in the Gayborhood in philadelphia. you've gotta keep up--the neighborhood locals are all in tip-top shape and have a keen fashion sense. Definitely made me a little more fashion-conscious living here.

Speaking of fashion, does anybody know about the shopping in des moines? I've been really spoiled (and up to my ears in debt) living in philly, I was wondering if there are any good malls in dsm or if I will be stuck in the world of online shopping...

take it easy, guys.

Raj

hey..
well it looks like i'm gonna have some fashion competition from Raj, huh? ... 😀 just kidding!

well... I just got back from Des MOines... and i was again reminded of why I loved it so much the first time I was there... like Prad said in a previous post.. people, people, people!!

I looked at some apts and I really like the "Hampton House" 😕 I think that's the name !! there's a Hampton in there somewhere! it's about 1/2 mile from school and they're really nice apts, very reasonably priced with all utilities included... which is not a bad deal at all!!

I didn't get a chance to look at the Imperial, Jane!! I guess they really prefer apts and then supposedly somebody was supposed to come out and meet us but they didn't show 😡 ... and we were a bit pressed on time so we didn't get around to it again...
tell me Jane do they have a GYM in the building??? I don't know where I heard that???

Quick question for you guys... where is the info on boards stats and passing rates?? I can't find it anywhere!

take care everyone!
Lina

Hey Lina,
The Imperial does not have a gym that I know of. I've heard about the Hampton House too! Sounds like you got a great deal. When are you going to move in?

Raj,
Dude, I had exactly the same concerns! I went to the Valley West mall in WDSM, and they have all the shops you would usually find (BR, Structure, Express, Limited, Gap, Victoria's Secret, etc, etc) And there's this big department store called Von Maur that has some pretty nice stuff. The prices are the same though, but the 6% tax makes a little difference, especially when we're about to get bumped to 9% here in CA. There's a lot of smaller plazas scattered around. I think I'll be doing most of my shopping online. It's addictive 😀

Prad,
The thread about the dean is in the osteo forum. Your awesome-ness is apparent even on these boards, where you could be typing all of this naked, and we still adore you!! 😍

Jane

Oh, Lina, I don't remember if I read this somewhere, or if it was mentioned at my interview, but the passing rates have consistently been at 97-98%. And 25-30% of students also take the USMLE. This part I'm sure was told to me at the interview. Anybody remember differently?

I've not read that thread regarding the dean.... I'll check it out.

As for boards, Jane is absolutely right.... only a few students take USMLE because there isn't a need to anymore.... unless you're going for the hard specialtist where you want to have all the option to do your residencies anywhere and everywhere.... The simply reason is that some Directors for residencies still don't know or may not want to learn how the COMLEX may differ from the USMLE.... thus having a hard time comparing applicants....

97% passing rate last year.... so we all have a good chance to pass, but if you're the last 3% then it's not all bad because they all pass the second time around.... you're just set a couple of months back for rotation and that you don't have any summers between third and fourth year if you fail boards in June.... October is the when you get a chance to try again if you fail June boards....

Hi JP!

Umm yeah, so guys, we're all going to pass ok? Because we want to have a summer!!

Hope all is well, JP 🙂

~J

Thanks Jane.... I tried answering that Dr. Teitelbaum stuff.... I have more info but right now not much time.... So I guess, I'll flag the questions when they come.....

Hey Lina and Raj.... 😀

Later, 😎

I'll let you know when we go on our shopping excursions. Maybe you can give us your input on our choices 😉 Like, which one's better, the red or the black?

Hey guys,
Wow, just a few days ago I was complaining that no one was ever on here, and then when I don't get on here for a couple of days everyone's on here. 🙂

I'm glad to hear that everyone is finding such great places to live. I'm so nervous that when I go to Des Moines, there won't be any openings...I'm just being paranoid.

I can't wait to get to Iowa and meet everyone. I won't be moving there until mid/late June so we'll have to plan something fun then. 🙂

Oh, and my opinion about the black/brown stuff. My boss ALWAYS wears black jeans with a brown belt and shoes...judging from what he looks like, it's not a good combo. 🙂 he likes it though. Haha.

 Ahahaha! That's not a good-looking mental picture I just had! That's even worse than just a brown belt w/ black shoes. It should be illegal to pair black jeans with brown shoes 😀

Actually, I might move the same week that Prad is moving, because it accomodates my mom's schedule better. So it sounds like we'll be in DSM at around the same time. We'll go find all the hot spots in town 🙂

By any chance, did you happen to look at a "Garden-Level" apt through Venture Realty on 31st St. on Friday?

Rick

Oops, missed this the first time around. No, that wasn't me. I didn't get to DSM until 4pm on Friday, and then had a fun time trying to find the hotel, while starving. Then I raided the Rock Bottom brewery with my dad 😀

HOLY ****. I think I just messed up big!!!!! I just totally bombed my genitics final. I'm so scared right now....

I guess it's just me here....

I've never been this scared about anything before. SHt SHt Sht!!!!!

1 tequila...2 tequila...3 tequila...and starting to feel better...maby I'll go have some more....

Prad, chill...keep tossing back those tequilas! Unless you have more finals to come...

When do you find out? Is it a required class for your major? I have a feeling you did better than you think 🙂

god this is sad, I'm typing while drunk!!! I've had a couple of more shots of tequiela and I am now what you or anyone else would call drunk...

the sad thing is that I'm drunk and I'm on a stupidd web site and some place else. I've now realize why it is that I only (or used to any way) only dirink a glass or two of beer.

Is'nt is sad that tje only people who I can talk to right now are on line......

I really should'nt drik any more tequilla....

the good news is that I dont give a sht anymore what I end up with in that class.

now I'm sad Oh **** this sucks!!!

🙁 Sorry Prad...

When do you find out?

Buck up my friend....worse comes to worse, you take genetics over the summer, and everything's good. But, I'm sure you did alright....What was your grade going into the final, and how much does it count?

Prad,

Just don't tell Jane what I really look like....You know, that I'm balding and like to sport the old Plumber's Crack:horns:

what happened to the posts????

Ok, I'm sober now. Rick your right i can take it over the summer. I had an 83 or 82 going into the final. Dude I ate the final. I studied the wrong chapters!!!!!😡 😡 😡

I had an old edition of the book!!!!the chapters did'nt match.

I'll keep you guys informed...I should know sometime tommarow.

Nite guys

Prad--Sorry to hear about genetics. Talk to your professor, and explain your situation. see if you can do a paper or something to give you the extra points to get a D. That's all you need to pass, who gives a fart about how well you do?

Jane--I believe that we're going to have lots of fun shopping together. No sales tax on clothes in PA, and we have one of the biggest malls in the world outside of philly--you ought to visit!

Lina, Jenny, Rick--Whatup? shout-out to my dmu peeps. I may try and move to dsm a little earlier to hang out and stuff.

JP--stop farting around on this website and study for boards. aren't they tomorrow or something?

off to work. peas.

Raj

Well----I got the wrod yesterday evening from DMU. I am on the list in the upper 1/4 of 55 students. Guess that puts me somewhere from 1 on the list to 14th. Hope everyone is well and I will see ya later. I have got to do some sub-cloneing. Be good---or good at it!

Prad, let us know how it went. Since you went into the final in good standing, you probably have a good chance now. And like Rick said, there's always summer school. I've got my fingers crossed for ya! 🙂

Raj, we'll definitely hit the malls! No sales tax on clothes in PA? I am there!!

Rick, just don't bend over and all will be well 😀

Valmont, good luck! Being so high on the list gives you a really good shot. Have you heard from VCOM?

The admit. team meets this friday---should know sometime soon there after!

Just wanted to let everyone know that Jane is close to hitting 1000 posts (G=grand, or one thousand, you perverts!). Lets help her our by getting some activity on this DMU thread--she ought to be able to get four or five legitimate posts on here before midnight.

Here's my question...

Does anyone know anything about the YMCA, what its facilities are like? If it's krusty-burger, I'm going to try and find a better gym. That's a worthwhile investment for me, I love to spend time at the gym. Flexible hours are important as well. I remember when I visited AZCOM it's all LA Fitness out there and they're all open 24 hours. I was so impressed with everyone's level of fitness out there. Almost as impressive as the 12th street gym where I work out now, which is the gay gym, and therefore makes me feel like a fatass every time I walk in there. take it easy guys.

😳 😳 You suck, Raj... 😛 😀 Thank you for pointing out that I have NO LIFE!!

Wasn't Phoenix voted the fittest city in America or something like that? Midwesterners tend to be...not as fit...

I heard the YMCA has some good stuff. I'm planning on getting an exercise thing for my apartment.

Anyway, go back to work!

I can help jane get to 1000 points, guess what I did'nt do as bad as I thought I did on the final. I ended up with a 78% in the class:clap:

I sa gonna be gogn' to medikal skool baby!!!!!!!!!!!😀 😀 😀

I guess God takes care of drunks and fools, and I qualify on both accounts.

YAY PRAD!!! YOU ROCK!!!!!

What'd we tell ya? Nothin to sweat about! I'll buy you a drink this Sunday :hardy: :hardy: :hardy:

Jane,
what floor is your apartment on? What kind of work out thing are you going to get? I'd really want to get a treadmill, but only if I can be on the first floor.

Prad,
Congratulations on passing your class, not like any of us really had any doubt.

Raj,
when did you say you were going out to look at apartments? You can look up a little bit of information about the YMCA on their website. I couldn't find much their equipment, but it should have their hours. I was a member of 24hour fitness, so I know what you mean about needing flexable hours.

I think prad was talking about how DMU will pay half of the YMCA dues, does anyone know if that's half of of the regular price or the student price. If they will pay half of the student price that makes YMCA only like $11/month. That's pretty good. 🙂 Especially if it's really close. 🙂

Lina,
What were the Hampton House apartments like? Are you going to live there?
Jenny

I'll be on the second floor. I wanted the third floor, but they didn't have any. I was thinking of Tony Little's Gazelle. It's totally quiet. You're right about the treadmill 😀 It would rock if you got one!

Jane,
Yeah I love treadmills, you can do anything while you're on them. So I could be watching friends and working out at the same time. 🙂 Although there are disadvantages to living on the first floor, like having loud upstairs neighbors like I have now. I honestly think that they are bowling in their apartment sometimes. 🙂
That Tony Little Gazelle looks pretty fun.
Jenny

Jenny,

I like treadmills too, but my knees hurt sometimes if I do high-impact things too much. I stick to ellipticals, and the Gazelle looks fun. I also hope that my upstairs neighbors will be the quiet, light-footed types 😉

~J

Hey Guys!!
:wow: boy does this post move fast!!! lol

Prad.
congrats... i'm glad everything turned out well !! 😉

Jenny,
the Hampton House apts were great! I looked at the studio and the 1 bedroom and they are both great!! the complex is only 1/2 mile away from school and very quiet.. the manager seems REALLY nice and what is great is that ALL utilities are included even electricity.... it looks like i'm going to be living there.. hopefully!!

Jane, JP, Rick, Raj ..... wassup!!! can't wait to see you soon!

I know there was more i wanted to say but i can't think of it right now 😕

I think i need to catch some sleep😴
later

Hi Lina!
Yeah this thread is crazy! Makes me proud to be a DMUer 😉 Maybe later we can coerce some more of our classmates to come and post.

And yes Raj, I hit the damn G-spot 🙄 It wasn't as exhilarating as I expected it to be 😉

~J

This thread is crazy, but I think that COMP class of 2005 has got everyone beat

Jane I got your e-mail, we'll see you there

But they had 2 years to get where they are 😛

I am so looking forward to seeing both of you!

Jane

Yeah they had two years, but I was looking at DMU class of 2005, they started off like us but the thread kind of died after school started. Hope that wont happen to us.

Whats the best way to get to Geary St. off of I 80?

😀 ... You mean that tiny little quiz we're taking on June 3rd and 4th.... I've got to take a break some time 😉 .... Studying for the boards gets really tiring and dry.... Wish I had more time but I can't seem to get myself sitting more than 2-4hours at a time....

I just read an article from the American College of Physicians that the optimum time for studying for the boards is 5 weeks.... I'm gonna show this to some administration to maybe get something done with this two weeks board break thing.... it ain't enough.... Oh well, I really doubt they'll do anything....

Here's a small email we got from the Department of Wellness that I thought I'd share....

Hi Everyone! We've got some great news for you! The Old Gym and Weight Room will remain open through Wednesday, June 4th! Originally, this facility had been scheduled to close on Tuesday, May 27th, but to help you make it through boards, classes and other activities, it will remain open through Wednesday, June 4th - from 6:00 a.m. - 11:00 p.m.

The New Temporary Fitness Facility is tentatively scheduled to open on Monday, June 9th. It's a great new air-conditioned facility that will house the cardio and weight equipment. The Wellness Department has just ordered two new Precor treadmills complete with a decline capability and three new Precor elliptical trainers that will be delivered in the next few weeks.

Please note that on Memorial Day the Gym/Weight Room will be opened from 5:00 p.m. - 11:00 p.m., but not during normal working hours since this is an official holiday.

Exercise classes will move to the Tower - Lower Level 10 beginning Monday, June 9th. Please check the portal for specific times and days for the exercise class schedule. http://my.dmu.edu. Enter your username and password.

Noon strength training and ab classes will be taught Mondays-Fridays - same schedule we've had this past year. Amy Pitzer, Missy Faga, Joy Schiller and Rachel Verville will be the noon exercise instructors. Thanks so much!
