I am chillin' in Des Moines and soooo excited for my interview tomorrow! I have the whole afternoon free tomorrow to check out the area cause I'll be going to Iowa City on Friday! So far loving my stay in Iowa!

You'll love it even more after interview day 🙂 I was honestly interviewing at DMU thinking it wasn't going to be a great experience but came away with it being one of my top choices!

I heard it was a good school but not sure if i really wanted to go there mainly due to the fact that i live in Arizona and havn't lived in cold weather in a long time. I just thought id take a shot to see for myself if i really liked it. After my interview day, I was blown away and i definitely want to go.

i have been invited for an interview. i have already been accepted to VCOM, and being a Virginia resident, will go to VCOM. i am looking to cancel my invitation to my interview. does anyone know if i can do this through the website they sent me, or do i just email them back and politely refuse?

thanks for your help!

i hope my cancellation turns into someone's invitation; gluck to those still waiting!

You can just email back whoever sent you the invitation. They're super nice.

I just received a fasTrack interview invite here and scheduled it for 12/9. It is my first interview invite this fall, I am excited to see this school.

I had my interview/tour today and I have to say that this school is awesome!! They had a wonderfully organized tour and it just reinforced my reverence for this place; it really supported what I had heard from my friends. I interviewed with Dr. Mueller and Angela (a PA) and they were great. Dr. Mueller is the nicest guy ever! Good luck to everyone else who is interviewing soon and I am looking forward to hearing some good news!

Nice! Haha, I loved Dr. Mueller. When we were introducing ourselves and I said I was a biochemistry major, he told me I got automatic +1 bonus points with him. .

got back to cali around 1am last night....DMU definitely does not disappoint, i really loved it...my interview was laid back and mostly conversational...mainly talking about my stories and how I would be moving from a big city like LA to des moines and going from a big university to DMU the other applicants were really cool and a few of them have interviews with me at other places...the 1st years were really cool...1 of them took another applicant and i to dinner before driving us to the airport

it was definitely a great day and I hope not to get anything disappointing in 3 weeks :xf:

Hey, I just got an interview to DMU for December 1st. I was wondering if any of you stayed with a medical student for free? It would be greatly appreciated!!

I stayed with a medical student. It was a great experience! I would highly recommend it.

How did you get situated with the student?

There is a link in the interview invite email to a list of potential student hosts. I emailed someone from the list about the opportunity to stay with them. The student host etiquette forum in the pre-allo section has a lot of good information that I would suggest you look at if you utilize the student host program at DMU.

Anyone from the Oct 13th Interview get a decision yet? How long has it been taking for everyone to hear back? - thanks

Hey I checked back at my e-mail and it told me of hotels I could stay at. Is there anyway you could possibly forward me an e-mail of that student so I could ask him?

Mine had 3 links toward the bottom of the interview invite email. One for directions to DMU, another for hotels to stay in, one for the student host program, and one for checking out the Des Moines area.

Why don't you just call the office? They are very nice and would probably just send you the link.

When was your application complete? Just curious

Had my interview yesterday...a lot of traveling (12+ total hours) in the last 36 hours.

I thought it went rather well. Everyone was super nice, the facility is amazing...everything was top notch.

It's official, I gave them my deposit today. DMU class of 2016!

I interviewed 10/17. When should i expect to hear back from them? I'm dying to know 🙁

Interviewed at DMU last week and fell in LOVE! This waiting period is much more painful than I had anticipated. I keep thinking of things that I should have (or should NOT have) said and done.
Anyhow, I have not yet had the biochem prerequisite course. I plan to take it in the spring (I'm a non-trad). One of my interviewers mentioned the need to discuss the biochem course, but then we talking about something else and we never did get around to it. Does anyone known if this could hurt my chances of admission? I understand that they wouldn't have invited me for an interview if it was a deal-breaker, but I'm a little nervous about it.
Also, this is going to sound ridiculous, but once I got into the interview room I reached into that purple folder to fetch one of about 15 pens that I had placed in there, and of course I couldn't find a single one. So there I am rifling through all of my stuff, and they're trying to start the interview. One of the interviewers finally handed me a pen. Highly embarrassing. 😱
Any thoughts from anyone???
Thanks

Dont know about the pen issue, but you will be fine as long as you actually complete biochem. They shouldnt hold not yet completing it against your for an acceptance decision.

Sorry to say... that pen incident is going to ruin your chances. They have a no tolerance policy for not having a DMU pen on-hand at all times.

I kid, of course!! , don't worry about it... I'm sure it added some fun humor to the scene. 😉

Best of luck! Hope to see you next fall. 🙂

Biochem won't be a problem. I never took it until the spring after my acceptance. They didn't mention it at my interview, but I had listed it as a planned course in my AACOMAS.

Good Luck:luck:

Thanks for the responses! I think I'm going to have an anxiety attack before 3 weeks are up (only 2.5 now, right?!)
IDFsoldierboy, I actually interviewed on Thursday...you were on Friday?

whoops totally meant thursday....still early morning haha...yea the next 2 weeks will be a bit rough

Do lots of people get off the alternate list?

I e-mailed admissions right after I recieved my alternate list e-mail and they told me that there was very little movement. Something like 10 last year and none the year prior to that. 🙁

Someone in my interview group wore a sweater vest... it was ugly too. Purple with multicolored squares on it? wtf...

And he didn't shave. 🙄

Darn! I, too, am on the alternate list and really like this school.

it wasn't just the sweater vest he also wore sneakers...i kind of felt bad...like i kept wondering what was going through his mind when he walked in and everyone was in suits (it was his first interview)

I mean I hope he gets in but still...a sweater vest! only 1 person in the world can pull off the sweater vest and thats Jim "the vest" Tressel lol

I hope you aren't talking about the student who was in crutches.... The kid was born with a birth disorder that caused him to not be able to walk as well, so he was in sneakers and a sweater because he can't walk in a suit properly. Perhaps if people here would pause to think for a second you wouldn't be quick to judge about what he wore. This post makes me sick. You're basically making fun of a handicapped person. I got a chance to talk to him and I feel honored to meet him because he's still going through with his dream despite the fact.

What a jerk. I can't believe you soldier.

Just kidding... I'm sure he wasn't talking about the same guy CompuMod.

Well...I wish that was the case, but it's quite evident. There was only one male, sweater vest, sneaker-wearing person that interviewed specifically Thursday of last week. :nono:

alright alright i'm sorry i didn't get a chance to talk with the guy...I didn't know what the circumstances were

don't get me wrong I was still rooting for the guy...I just didn't know why he was dressed like that..

anyways I am sorry that my post was hurtful

and now i am done making an a** out of myself

👍 It's fine. The good thing is that you know now, which is always good. IDFsoldier you are fine as a person and as a future doctor in my book. I thought you knew the situation about him which is why I got defensive of him, but now I feel bad for making you feel bad. 🙁 I'm sorry, too.

Im not trying to be mean but you guys need to watch what you say not only because this other kid might be reading this but you guys are going to potentially become future doctors. Try acting like one and be professional on this board.

Oh my... I thought you were just making that up CompuMod. But I'm glad the air is cleared here.

I shall change the subject. Anyone else for sure going to DMU here?
