The Admission Committee and the Dean of the College of Osteopathic Medicine have placed you on our Alternate List for admission. The decision was reached following a comprehensive review of your application and considering the results of your interview on campus. *

While we are currently unable to offer you a seat in the class, we may make additional offers of admission at the close of the application year. Your position within the Alternate List guarantees that you will be considered if space becomes available.

If vacancies in the Class of 2016 occur at the conclusion of the application cycle, selected candidates will be notified immediately. If you are offered a seat, you will have the opportunity to accept or decline. A seat deposit will only be required if you are offered, and accept, a seat in the class. You should have a plan to complete all necessary conditions for admission (prerequisite coursework, bachelor's degree, etc.) in preparation for a possible vacancy. If you have any questions regarding your conditions, please contact us at [email protected].

If you would like to continue to receive consideration, there is no need for action at this time. I encourage you to send any final grades to AACOMAS for processing. Send other updates or new contact information directly to DMU to keep your file current. *

If your plans have changed, and you would like to withdraw your file from consideration, simply email your request to [email protected].

Sincerely, *********

I had thought the interview went really well. There was nothing that they asked that I wasn't prepared to answer. The ONLY thing that I could think of is that she said "I assume you have applied to both MD and DO programs?" My response - "Absolutely" Her "right, ok, then how do you plan on making a decision on which school you are going to go to?" Me: "well I am going to consider all of my options (barring there are options) and then talk it over with my wife to see which program best fits our needs and will give me the best education." -

Who knows maybe they didn't like the whole MD/DO applications, that is the only thing I could think of really. 27-29Q 3.4-O/3.6-S GPA

DO schools know many applicants apply to both MD and DO schools. You can always contact them to ask why they put you on the waitlist. They were very open with me on that.

Did you call or email?

thanks

wow toytles...are you stealing the duties of flemon the wizard man?...I guess it's a fwee countwy, so why not..

(yes I spelled fwee and countwy to help you understand me bettuw )

Huh?

I don't know what you're talking about, but I'd never take on the duties of a wizard. I'm not worrthyy. 🙁

Besides... I haven't graduated from Hogwarts yet. It's been difficult since Voldemort is back and all. 😡

So I've been apartment hunting online and have concluded that a studio apt at 3000 Grand is probably the best option for me. They haven't posted much about what utilities are included; hopefully the only one that's not is just Electric (which nobody seems to pay for... for good reason I suppose 😛)

I'll be going next Spring with my mom to look at this place and others. When do you guys think is too "late" to be looking for apartments? I don't want to be in a situation where all the apartment rooms are occupied because everyone got to them before me!! :scared:

Sorry again if this is a dumb worry.... this is my first time apartment hunting/going to be my first time living alone in an apartment. Kinda excited, but want to make sure everything is taken care of! 😎

It might sound stupid but you might want to consider getting an apartment with someone as well. It might help lower the costs. Im not sure if its best to get it with anyone or someone in our program because you might have issues with your room mate if they are in a different program with their own schedule and if your in the same program you can at least study together. On the other hand if your in the same program and dont get along, your going to have a really crappy year. As far as times, Ive only got an apartment one time, so im not experienced with all that. Im sure ill have plenty of questions like this to ask as well, but i need to get accepted first so im not worried about it yet.🙂

Haha thanks jflash. I'd actually rather live alone in a small studio apartment. I'm a very outgoing person in public but I also enjoy some solitude. Besides, my parents would never let me have a roommate... and since they're paying for the apartment, well ya. 🙄

Good luck with your acceptance. I'll post here with any answers I receive for my apartment questions... hopefully it'll help us both! 😎

I have been looking as well for apartments, with 2 requirements I hope to get out is walking distance to DMU (which won't be a problem) and laundry in my unit (seeming harder to find). I think my mom and I are going down to Des Moines end of April, early May to look and hopefully find something. I am planning on moving early to mid July so I think that would be adequate time....??

I am looking to live without a roommate as well, considering I have been living alone for the past 4 years, I am accustomed to it and well I am nervous to have another bad experience moving in with someone I may not know well. I do hope to move into a place where there are other students around to study with/ hang out and go out with, of course! 🙂

Anyone know of a place that would fulfill washer/dryer in unit? haha I think I have only found 2 places within walking distance....

Hey sorry it has taken so long to get back to you.... My application was complete on 9/16/11.

I meant to say that they don't want me to have to deal with the troubles a roommate would cause. I'm kinda glad they feel this way, as I don't think I could stand having a roommate (no offense to anyone who wants/has one). As I said before... I enjoy my solitude and space in addition to having fun with peers.

Sorry, didn't mean for that to come across in a wrong way. lol

Oh, since I'm posting I might as well ask a question. Is each class every day? So for a first year student... do we have anatomy class every day of the week or is it every other day? And about how long does each class last? Just curious!

Thanks. 😎

a

How do you expect to live with a gf if you have one...that would mean having a roommate.

I was thinking about apartment hunting sometime in Feb or March, but I think that might be too early since apparently students only have to give like 30 day notice of moving out.
Plus, call me crazy, but I want a roommate. I've had roommates in all my apartments through undergrad and even now that Ive graduated. If I want to be alone I can just close my door, but I like having the option of having someone to talk to and to hang out with when you dont want to study. Plus tonight my roommate taught me how to make an omelet...I would have been dinnerless if I lived alone!!

Feb might be too early to find an adequate roommate though..

oh and Iliketoytles... I was looking at 3000 grand and the townhomes..walking distance to campus is like my main priority.

No, don't have each class every day. There is no regular schedule. For example, sometimes you can have a couple hours of one class, then an hour of another class, then maybe a lab in the afternoon. Some weeks we could have 10 hours of one class, 2 hours of another, or 0 of one (we don't have any OMM this week).

It works out well. They decide the schedule for the entire semester and push it out to your Outlook calander, so it's not confusing. It's a very manageable schedule. Wednesday mornings don't start until 10, often there are 9 am classes, and less often 8am. It's also not generally all day, afternoons are usually off or maybe 1 lecture or lab. For example, this week I would have been done by noon everyday (if I went to lecture) except for one afternoon with a lab.

Lectures are generally 50 minutes, OMM lab 1.5 hrs once/wk, and anatomy lab 2 hrs 2-3 times/wk. I can only comment on 1st semester though.

What is the name of the townhomes? I'm looking for a place close to campus as well...

They asked me the same thing and I said yes and I was wait listed too. Maybe you are right!

They asked me if I had applied to MD as well as DO and this is something I knew someone would ask, so I had an honest answer ready. I told them that at the beginning of the application process, I honestly didn't know much about DO, but as I've progressed through the season, talked to current DO students, seen the facilities, and talked to the faculty, I was really blown away by DO schools. I always felt like I was getting a first class experience at DO schools during my interviews and not only did the students love the school, but the teachers had a genuine appreciation of the students, which is what I was looking for. Many DO schools are apprehensive to accept applicants that don't appear to be looking for the DO experience, and while many applicants do apply MD and DO, they are cautious to accept people that don't stress that they are looking for what their school offers. No school wants to accept people that make it sound like their school is a backup 🙁

No one asked me if I applied to MD schools (I did, my stats are plenty high to get into one), but I guess my situation is a bit different since my spouse is a DO. They really didn't question my commitment to DO once they knew that.

I guess you have to have a really strong answer to why DO to avoid the possible questions about applying/attending MD. Or just kind of gloss over it. I did have someone ask me indirectly about me getting into other schools (I think it could easily have led to me discussing MD schools, but I didn't), I just talked about how their school matched what I was looking for and fit was the most important thing to me. It didn't happen at DMU though, it was a different DO school.

Sorry about your waitlists guys.

Sorry about the waitlist. Hopefully things will work out for you guys.

For the question about appying to both MD and DO schools, my answer was yes but I did explain why I chose DO and DMU (specificially) with stories to back up my claim. Not sure how much all these have any bearing on the admission decision though.

So I emailed the office and they told me to call in. I called and the girl was really nice, she just said that things are really competitive and my science GPA was a little low and that I didn't have a ton of science credits. (Duh- I'm a finance major) Anyway so thats why she said I was wait listed in case you guys were wondering. She didn't mention anything about the interview so I'm assuming it was just a competitive group.

hmmm i think its interesting that they tell you its not based upon your grades and stuff at this point because you were good enough to get the interview. So at this point its assumed everything should be based upon how your interview went and youll have the opportunity to explain your self. Then most of the times i see people being rejected after the interview for specific classes or gpa or MCATs. why bother telling you that youve already been good enough..Oh well sorry to hear your wait list. Its getting me kind of nervous hearing about all these other people waitlisted. Hopefully I was good enough
:scared:

What I find interesting (and this may be due to embarrassment) but there hasn't been many (maybe even any) rejections post interview at this point. At least not posted in this thread.

I read somewhere that people who were interviewed early in the cycle (and didn't get accepted) mostly got placed on the alternate list. Then, if I were rejected, I wouldn't have come here to announce my rejection. That will be too depressing.

I interviewed on 10/17, anyone knows when i can expect a decision email?

I would assume next week. I had my interview 10/21 and they told us 3 weeks which according to my calendar will be next week. You were only a few days before so i imagine probably a few days before i receive mine or the exact day that I receive mine.

The townhouses are Reilly Grand Townhome and apparently they are 1050 a month not including cable, internet or electric. I think theyre more expensive than 3000 grand and the Imperial which are also right across the street from the school.

Getting pumped for this interview on Monday! Who's with me?

Ughhh I'm getting really frustrated not hearing on an interview invite yet... Must be up big time in applications this cycle. Last year I got in II in 2 days! I have yet to receive one now and my application was "Complete" on October 5th... Come on DMU!!!

Same here, complete October 5th, no II yet...

I am going to buy a house if I get accepted to DMU (interview went well and am very hopeful).

I have 3 children and a wife, so I need the space. I am sick of throwing away money without gaining any principle/equity.

What are the best areas in Des Moines to buy houses that are affordable, but still have decent school districts, and are in decent neighborhoods.

C'mon FrkyBgStok, I know you have the insider details on this, lol....😀

Hell yes I do. How old are your kids. Johnston, urbandale, ankeny, west des moines, and waukee are great. I live in Johnston. My kids attend parochial schools, however I went to Johnston and it is good. The other three are good. Des Moines proper is going to be your cheapest option for buying a house, and the schools are the worst. If you must live in Des Moines, stay off the east side. Lincoln (south side) and Roosevelt schools are the two best dsm schools with Hoover being third, north being forth, and east being a distant last. There are other good areas that include saylor township, polk city, bondurant, pleasant hill, and Altoona but these are more rural suburbs.

I live in Johnston and I have about a 15 min in town drive to DMU. Urbandale is the next town south and ankeny is north. Waukee and west Des moines are way west. We are north. Any more info I can hook you up. If you get accepted and you question specific areas (west dsm has some iffy areas), i can answer specifics.

Also my kids are 6, 5, and 3 to give you a comparison.

For anyone else looking at purchasing, Iowa Realty is Des Moines' biggest realty company. Their website is iowarealty.com. We also have coldwell banker and remax.

Thanks!

My children are ages:

Youngest Son - 2
Oldest Son - 5
Step-Daughter - 16 (she will be a senior next year)

I don't mind commuting up to 20-25 minutes if it means a much nicer house for less or better schools.

Thanks!

Alternate List, won't be seeing you guys next year, attending my 2nd choice WesternU. Good luck to you all!!!
