DMU Summer Podiatry Preview

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Ohhh yea I would like to know this too! It sounds really interesting but idk if it is even worth it since its only for one day and I am from california

I did it last summer. As far as I know, I'm the only one on these boards n that has done it in recent years.

The program is drastically different this summer compared to previous years, but I still STRONGLY recommend applying

What did they have you do last summer? Did it help make your decision for podiatry?

And how competitive is it? The lady told me they average around 50 apps for 10-15 spots.

Yeah I think it is fairly competitive. Last summer there were seven of us and something like 60 apps I think, so around 10%. This year they doubled the size, but I imagine apps will stay the same. The preview definitely solidified my interest in podiatry and really gave me a great look at DMU. I've done a lot of research on the field, and the schooling, so I'm not sure I learned a whole lot while I was there, but I think the others did. It was really nice to get to know current students, administration, and those in the admission office when applying too.

I guess my recommendation would be: if you are considering DMU as a school, DEFINITELY apply. If not, still apply.

Unless you would have to miss out on something important, you should try to do this program because it can't hurt you.

My next recommendation for getting in is to put care and thought into your application. It's to late to change your GPA, but really put thoughtful responses into your essays. I know that sounds simple, but I think many people just throw something together and think it's good enough.

Good luck

Thanks Maxo and I went ahead and applied but there were no essays, just one that asked us why we wanted to complete the program and why podiatry. Did u have multiple essays?

I think those were the same thing they asked us, which is why it was important to not just say, "I want to be a podiatrist and this program would be cool." And, "I like feet and want to help people."

I can almost guarantee that somebody has/will submit an app like that, and that person will probably not get into the program. Look for something profound, moving, or anything really that helps you stand out (in a positive way...)

Okay great, is there any way i can send u my essay and u can read it?

I did but i just wanted to get your input on it anyway.

This might sound stupid but how do i upload my essay to u? Can u give me ur email and i can do it that way?

It sounds to me like all of the summer programs are pretty similar. DMU is the most competitive, and they used to pay your airfare and stuff too. I did one at KSUCPM and it was like Max described. I had already known I wanted to do podiatry for years and had already done a ton of shadowing, so i didn't learn a lot that I didn't know already. but it was nice to meet all of the people who would be involved in my admission decision talk with most of them every day I was there. I would recommend any of them
