Touro Nevada
Pros
  • Close to home (Cali native)
  • High chance for residency on West Coast
  • Rotations known to be mostly near the school

Cons
  • Residency match list is not as competitive for specialties
  • 6 weeksish to study for COMLEX1/STEP1
  • Research is sparse

DMU
Pros
  • OG school
  • More residency matches in competitive specialties
  • New campus
  • Research opportunities are better\
  • One week break after every block

Cons
  • Very far from home
  • Weather is cold
  • Do not match as much in West Coast

Summary: Overall, I would be happy with either one, but I am not sure if going to DMU would be worth it since it is so much farther away from home. TUN is also a great school, but I am planning to pursue a surgical specialty so I am unsure if DMU would be a better choice based off that. Any advice is appreciated.

It’s fine to pick Touro if you want to be closer to home. It is established and has convenient rotation options as you pointed out. Surgical specialties will be hard at either of them (in general, without factoring in your geographic preferences on top of that). You’ll have to see if there’s programs at UNLV that you could potentially network with.
