I am currently a "super" senior majoring as bio medical engineering (5 th year) and weak 3.1 gpa . I took off time to work with several companies in dealing with medical devices. When it was it all and done , I came to the significant conclusion that I rather be the guy installing devices and interacting with patients than simply doing r/d. For some reason , I was trying to build my "industry" profile so that I would be in a position where I can talk to patients and doctors 100 % of my time. It just didnt make sense ..
What is unique is that ..
I am taking bio 1 and orgo 1 this sem (fall) and bio 2 and orgo 2 next sem (spring). Dont ask why I am taking it right now and so late its a long story hehe but in simple terms.. my curricullum has its own "engineered" version of bio and etc.
I am also planning to take MCATS in april ..
My main goal is to get into some DO School or else go caribs by this summer/fall ...
Do I have any chance at all to get in ? And when would I start sending out my application considering I didnt even finish the pre req's yet ?

I am quite impatient about waiting till 2006 to get my shot at the americal schools , I am currently 22 turning 23 soon .. (not getting any older ya know)
But realisticly in my opinion , I dont really care if its from forgeign or american or DO ...its all about the skills you develop and the applications you decide to use at the end

Sorry for the long post , but I figured an detailed explanation would give you a better image of myself and my situation ..

What do I say... I guess some of you know what I will say... but I will be helpful this time.

1. Do something you will enjoy (DO, MD, Carib).
2. If you know about DOs and you like the phil than for sure give it a shot.
3. If you just want to be a physician than anyone will do.
4. No one can really tell you with out the MCAT.
5. You can apply June 1, I believe.
6. You don't need all pre-req completed. Most would be ideal.
7. More and More medical schools are looking at experience and maturity.
8. 22 going on to 23... yeah.. you are getting old man.
9. Good luck.

That's not old ....

I am 25 going on 26. applying for next year... you have time...

What's the rush?

Really ?? And they would consider me as an applicant for the fall 2005 ? I just dont want to cough up hundreds of dollars(applications fee) to these people and preety much screw me at the end , ya know ?
I spoke to some rep from a school and she totally discouraged me and said that your too late .. and that we already starting to giving out interviews.

Does anyone know any schools that tends to handle late students fairly well ? UMDNJ is fairly strict along with Southern NOVA ..

No, June 1st is when you can start applying for fall 2006. Fall 2005 application cycle is well underway, many of us are interviewing and getting acceptances already. If you want to apply for fall 2005, you better get moving!!

in terms of your timeline, US med schools, MD and DO application cycles start in June of the year prior to matriculation and can go the entire year right up til school starts. So for matriculation in fall of 2006, you start applying summer of 2005 for both MD and DO schools. Carib schools are rolling year round and work on really condensed schedules, also they have multiple start times throughout the year. Carib schools can interview you and tell you if you're in within 3-4 weeks of your applying, and you can even start the very next semester. so like people who want to start jan 2005, can actually still apply now and be set to go. if you definitely want to start med school fall of 2005 no matter what, then that sounds like your best bet. but i think most people would reccommend waiting to see how you do on the april mcat, and consider applying for matriculation in 2006 for US MD or DO programs, which you would do as soon as you get your mcat scores in june next year.

^^
I guess I will start filling out the aacom application and formulating the letters of recommendation very soon .. I will give it a shot . But prolly applying to only a 2 or 3 schools b/c my odds dont look so well considering you guys already got your interviews and acceptances .. ehhh sucks.

You
CANNOT
Apply to a US medical school without an MCAT score.

April 2005 scores are not acceptable for this year, 2005, applications.

I am 30 and I will be 31 when I start at UMDNJ this coming summer and I do not feel "old" or "behind". If anything, I feel that I have an advantage of sorts. So the best advice you can get is to chill out, read up as much as possible about the process (being prepared will make the torture less painful), about medical school, and start studying real hard for the MCAT after Christmas. Then, apply early, in June, and you should be set... You cannot rush this process and you cannot change the rules so just go with the flow and time will pass faster than you think. Use this year to shadow and volunteer at a local ED and do some research if you can, it can only help.

Oh, I thought he had taken the MCAT. Nate is right, you have to wait.
