Do all dental schools begin in fall?

I am in particular asking which USA schools begin pre-august. Maybe there is a resource with the collective information on starting dates summarized in one place for the 58 schools? I haven't found it in the ADEA official guide to dental schools, but it would be nice for people to know.

Thanks!

Just wondering if anyone knows if they generally start in Aug-Sept, since I think some med schools start early like in June. Is it ok to start making summer plans?

Thanks!!

Please do not ever post any more ridiculous comments on SDN no more. You find out that info on your own. If you are asking that dumb question you do not belong in dental school, because dental students should have common sense which you lack.

That was a bit unnecessary. Some schools do start before fall, and not all schools post their academic calendars online, so that question was legitimate. You don't have to be an ***hole.

UoP starts in July

why dont you call your school and ask? Many dental schools start in june or july. I agree people who ask stupid questions do not belong in any kind of professional school

It is not being an ***hole, we are not in Elementry School any more. I know high school students who have the common sense to find out when all the colleges that they are applying to starts. Most of us on SDN have college degrees, and we are preparing to enter professional school. You do not come on a professional board and ask childish questions that you can figure out yourself.

Australian dental schools start in February. Good question.

This is a shame. Going into dental school to help people. Yet you have no patience for a new person's questions.

It's definitely a legitimate question. Like someone said above, not all schools start in the fall, some start in the summer.

If you do a SDN search on this question, you will see MANY people asking the same question. Maybe all these angry people should complain to the people that asked those questions and the hundreds of people that responded.

Yeah, I agree. But a question asked by many people doesnt make it a stupid question. Maybe the OP has not done research, but it is no reason for people to get aggressive and offensive to him-her.

Juanatas,

Based on your post, then 90% of the questions asked in this forum are dumb questions since most of the questions can be found online elsewhere. You need to chill out. If you feel a question is stupid, keep your opinion to yourself. This website is here for people to ask questions. Some questions are obvious. Some questions have been ask 2000 times. Some questions could be looked up for better answers. Some questions are asked because of pure laziness. No matter which category this question falls into really doesn't matter. All that really matters is that your comment was UNCALLED FOR!!! Your comment was the one that was ridiculous. Please, for the sake of this forum, if you cannot help out, then don't post. All you needed to tell the OP was 'for better info, you may want to visit the individual school's websites. You are more likely to get a more accurate answer that way.' or somethign like that. Calling a person's question stupid when it is a legit question only makes YOU look stupid. Seriously, chill out!

I think you misread my post, I think that if the question was asked plenty of times and many people answered it..than there may be some merit to asking the question and it is a good question. Personally, I don't think there is an unfit question that should not be asked unless it is vulgar or completely off topic.

Oh and when I was quoting you earlier, I meant to write that I agree with you and you made a good point.

And the bedside manner award goes to...

Sheez why all hating??? Depends on the school you are going to, pretty much all school dont start before august, some start in september, and only a couple start ion july.

haha.. Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like that. I wasn't talking about you when I said people were getting aggressive. But I did understand what you meant and definitely agree with you. As long as the question is on topic, there's no reason not to answer it.

juanatas, you can say what you want, but don't go claiming at your interviews (if you get any) that you are doing dentistry because you want to help people, because you have obviously shown that that is not the case.

I am sorry if I may have came off as a prick. This is just my opinion, which many might disagree with. However I believe that others might think the same way I do, they just didn't post it. I am just tired of people posting things on SDN that requires just a bit more due diligence on the person's part. What did that person expect the answer to be?

For your information, I am on my way to an interview that will start in less than 12 hours from now. I am going into dentistry to help people. People must realize that they must be wanting to help themselves first, before they can be helped. If a person is not willing to help themselves, they are just wanting other people to do all of the work for them. As for this question, the person, should have either:
a)check the D-schools website
b) emailed the dental school to see when the school starts
c) called up the dental school to ask when they starts
d) if all else fails, post a question on SDN, " When do school-A, and School-B start. ( I have not received any calls nor email response back from the schools)

How do we know which dental school is in question, as someone said in a earlier post there is a dental school in Australia that starts in February. This person is asking a question and we don't know which continent the dental school is on. I would assume the USA, but the question ask " do ALL" not American dental schools.

If you say that you wanna be a dentist cuz you wanna help people, you will likely be laughed at. That answer is soooo cliche and impersonal.

Oh my bad. I didn't realize that Axoloti wasn't willing to help herself.

If you have an interview in 12 hours, what are you doing posting a bunch on SDN? lol. I got it. We'll make you the question police to make sure all the questions are worthy of posting since you have so much free time.

I am by myself reading through SDN. I been on this website all day. I only have freetime now, but I will be going to bed fairly soon.

Yes, it is just your opinion. Yes, this is a free country and you are entitled to your opinion. But, just because you have an opinion, you don't have to be a 'prick' (as you stated). Personally, I do beleive that people should look things up for themselves first. The most reliable info will come from the sources directly and not second hand from forums like this. But, not everyone feels this way. In today's society, people have become lazy. They look for the easiest way to get things. This includes info. We have begun to rely upon forums and websites like Wikapedia for the 'truths'. Many of the times they are correct, but at times the info is wrong or only telling partial truths. Yet, people still will use the info without verifying the accuracy. But, no matter what your opinion is, this website is here for a reason - to help others learn about various topics and for people to ask questions about dental related topics - including oes that you or other people may think are stupid. You stated "I am just tired of people posting things on SDN that requires just a bit more due diligence on the person's part. What did that person expect the answer to be?" - dude, you have been on this website only a few months. You have contributed very little here. I could see how if you have been here helping others for a few years and this particular topic had been asked many times, I could see how you could get sarcastic and then direct them to particular threads, but for you to call the OP put and calling the question dumb is out of line. Yes, you may have thought it was dumb, but many people think it is a legit question (which I think it is a legit Q also.) Yes, the OP could have looked every school up for themself, but then again there are thousands of people who may have looked this question up about particular schools, so if you can get many people to look at this question and for those schools that start early a person responds, then the question will be answered so everyone knows the answer to a question that someone else will know about now just because the OP decided to ask the question.

Get a little more seasoned on this website. Contribute a lot more on this website. Then, maybe, you will have a legit claim for frustration when you think someone is asking a question. But you haven't been here log nor have you contributed much, so you claim really is not justified. No matter how justified it is, calling the OP's question dumb though was uncalled for!

Really? This is a FORUM. That's what forums are for: posting random questions and share/gain random info. Some info is useful to some people and not others. If you don't like the question/topic, just move on to the next or just dont read the thread (i mean you could have told from the subject). And even if the OP could look it up online or ask so many schools (how much time would that take compared to posting it on SDN and getting feedback from others?), but this way is not only easier, but others who are interested in the info get to see it too.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is: Don't hate, celebrate!!! ;p

Holy **** that just got posted 4 times. Oooops .......

wow, thanks alot juanatas84! I understand exactly where your coming from, but cmon dude, maybe he-she wanted a quick answer from SDN as oppose to emailing the dental schools.

Im pretty sure on your dental school journey you may have had questions that you wanted answerd; they may have been stupid **** ass questions also. So show respect, no rudeness intended!

Peace

I guess your "Elementry" school did not teach you proper spelling and grammar ("any more" vs. "anymore")...

You are SO in the wrong!

I have seen many really stupid posts before, but this is not one of them. Almost EVERY SINGLE question asked on this forum can be looked up or researched to find a viable answer. The point of SDN in some ways is to make this process easier by asking questions on threads.

This is not a case of a dumb question, its a case of a dumb response...

And to the OP most schools start ~August. But Uop starts earlier ~July (+ some others)

Just check out the website of the school of interest and you will get a clear cut answer.

Wow, there is quite a number of inappropriate responses as well as a few that actually answer the question.

juanatas84, its unfortunate that you have to be so immature as to feel the need to bash on other people through the safety of the internet.

I only asked the question as I felt that the answers would be helpful to other applicants who may spot the thread and realize that not all schools start in August, or perhaps there is an existant database with a starting time for each school that we could bring to the attention of fellow applicants. How do you know unless you ask? As Navy DDS 2010 said, most of the questions on the forum are repetitive or naive in nature anyway. Information changes and it's not always easy to find.

I already got the answer through my interviews, so I didn't need to return to the thread for the answer. Yes, I did the work on my own without waiting two weeks for someone to hand it to me. I see now that no one yet seems to know of an easy, summarized resource for that specific information.

It would be really nice if there were less people on SDN who spend their time writing mean comments, and more people who you can tell will truly make admirable practitioners.

There are NO stupid questions! I hate it when people put others down for asking questions, that is one of my biggest biggest pet peeves! Especially on in a space like SDN. Also, it is just a blog, if you feel the need to pick on people on an SDN blog how do you act with people in real life!?

Anyway...
Ok, back to the original question. I was actually wondering the same thing as Axoloti.

Sure, I could navigate through every single dental schoo's website that l I will be applying to ( 20 ), or I could just ask you guys. I choose the latter 😎

So which schools start pre-August? 🙂 Anyone have a list?

Thanks, komrad. I know Tommy43087 mentioned that UOP starts in July? And I know that Indiana starts around July 1. This is important because you have to start looking for housing next month! And plan on having barely any summer, if you're graduating in June. 🙁

Michigan starts in July too

Alright guys. Everyone relax. Take a deep breath. It's going to be okay. Everyone should stop worrying about how to prepare for the upcoming freshman year, what books to read, and what not, and just enjoy your accomplishments 🙂 Schools vary matriculation dates from July all the way to the end of September. You can just call the school and ask. Plan the last vacation you'll have in the next four years accordingly. 😉

Are you actually calling SDN professional? This thread alone should attest to the fallacy of that statement.

Case Western starts on my birthday, August 9th.

Yay. =\

I disagree. There are plenty of stupid questions.

What? Just because he has his opinion and being rude to a person who asked a question doesn't mean he can't practice dentistry to help people.

As much as I love posting, texting (actually, I hate texting), facebooking, emailing, etc, I HATE that these modes of communication are considerably more impersonal than a face to face conversation. Let's just all take a 'time out' and think about what we are saying.

Would you say any of these comments to a person's face? How about a classmate or a friend? Do not assume that the face behind the icon and anonymous codename is someone you don't know. We are all entering a prestigious PROFESSION and shall soon be called PROFESSIONALS. Let's start by acting like one and abide by life's Golden Rules. Treat others as you want to be treated....If you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all....Live, Laugh, Love....Mmm Mmm, Good (Ok, maybe the Campbell's Soup jingle isn't a golden rule, but good tomato soup leaves me feeling warm and fuzzy all over!)

And now I'm officially hungry.
