Just trying to wrap my head around the Early Decision thing.

So can you only apply to 1 school Early Decision?

My dream school would be UAB but their site says the EDP minimum requirements have a GPA of 3.6.....sadly not quite there.

My second choice is the other state school at Southern, they have EDP and no requirements listed. I know I can call the school and probably will, just was wondering if anyone knew off hand is there usually a GPA requirement for EDPs in general, can you apply to more than 1 school EDP?

Thanks.

You CANNOT apply to more than one school EDP. Not all schools have a GPA cut-off or MCAT cut-off, but if you do not have at least a 3.6/32 it is NOT advisable to apply EDP anywhere. You are much better off applying broadly.

The problem with EDP is you cannot apply to any other schools early. If you do not get into the school through EDP you basically are late to every other school. As a rule of thump, add 0.2 to the average GPA and 2 pts to the average MCAT score to find out if you would be a competitive EDP applicant. This is based on guidance from UMass a few years ago.

What kind of EDP? For example, DMU has a program where you apply sophmore year and you have to maintain a certain GPA and eventually get a certain score on the MCAT. All these EDP type programs probably have a GPA cutoff.

In my experience those are called "early acceptance programs" and not early decision programs. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure EDP refers to those applying to med schools to start after their college degree. I'm not too familiar with the DMU program (though, I know a few other schools have similar ones that you apply to during your sophomore year... one in Ohio and one in New York).

DMU has an early acceptance program and an early enrollment program. They do not offer an Early Decision Program.
