I have acceptances at both MD and DO schools. I've wanted to go DO. However, the price is much more and I have an acceptance from an MD program which is much, much cheaper, my state school.

I'm considering primary care. So, why go so far into debt for a DO degree when an MD degree will get me what I want? Any thoughts? I just wish that the DO school that I want wasn't so expensive.

It's a hard choice. Will you regret not going DO? Will you regret spending that much money? Which is worse? To me, being a doctor is the primary goal, so keep your expenses down and go MD. In the end, I think you'll be the best that you can based on who you are and not necessarily where you get your medical degree from and the other thing is that you'll truly learn what it means to be a doctor during your residency.

go to your state MD school, hands down. If you want to learn manipulation, you can get certified by the American Academy of Osteopathy later on in your career. Save the cash.

Go MD and save the cash unless you absolutely hate the MD school, faculty, and students.

Another one bites the dust...

I'm in your situation but in the reverse. The MD school is miles away and cost wise would probably be more expensive than the DO school.

In your situation, I'd say go MD easily.

Without reservation, hesitation, procrastination...take the MD spot. If you want you can take some of that money you will be saving and read a book about osteopathy.

I am also in a similar situation but I really loved the DO school that I decided to matriculate in. I decided it was more important to go where I was most comfortable and felt the most impressed than going to the lest expensive school. It's an investment in your future so go whereever you feel is the best investment for you

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. I'm think I'm going to have to think some more.

when you are thinking about the situation remember to ask yourself: will I be happy in the MD school or the DO school. no matter where you are and what it cost you can either be miserable or wonderfully happy!! just a reminder. 🙂

A medical school is a medical school. Pick the one that will leave you in the least debt, and that works the best for your situation.

If you were happy about the MD school and the DO school then by all means take the MD route. But if you felt better about the DO school and didnt get the same feelings at the MD school maybe you should think about that. 4 years at a place where you are not happy would be miserable. If I were in your situation i would go witht the MD all the way.
